I was at local bait shop today, and I had a conversation with a older gentleman about these new spoons that use a little glow stick as a form of illumination to attract fish. He said it wasn't for him since the price was over 6 dollars and the glo sticks didn't last long for his walleye night bite.
A few years back I read this article about the use of uv glowing lures actually scientifically work becuase fish use uv rays to detect food, potential mates or predators. So does these new spoons with glo sticks really going to enhance the uv rays of the lure?
Is anyone going to try these new glo shot spoons out this winter or is this another gimmick like the bait cloud.

Probably. I’m a sucker for new toys. Plus, I don’t mind buying ice lures like mad, since I rarely lose a lure ice fishing.

I'm almost certain the glow sticks don't emit UV rays but I could be wrong. There is also a big difference between UV light and black light so the consumer really needs to watch out for fraudulent claims.

I've just not had much luck with UV stuff. Maybe its a confidence thing, but i just seem to do better with normal glow on my buckshot spoons etc. Maybe its because the UV paint jobs look so cheesy, that i just don't have confidence with them and don't put them down the hole as much.

Any fluorescent color is UV-reactive. It doesn't emit UV light, but will illuminate much brighter because of UV rays that penetrate the water.

Was that hyperlink posted in agreement with what I said? Because, after reading the article it’s exactly what I’m saying.

Not much information on the use of uv lures during ice fishing where light penetration is at its worst. According to the articles after a certain depth light is illuminated in shades of grey with blue being seen over longer distances.
It would be interesting to see how fish react to a glow spoon in 20+ feet of water. Interesting topic for this upcoming headwater season

They should make cameras we can stick down the hole to see how the glow vs. UV works.....first one to post a pic or vid wins! (Vol, this is where you decide what they win and provide said prize)

after a 30 year career as spectroscopist, specializing in UV fluorescence, I have much knowledge in this area

but I’m tired right now
