I'm trying to plan a kid friendly trip to Las Vegas and Lake Havasu in the coming months. Basic plan is to fly into Vegas, spend a day there, and then trip on down to see and stay with family at Lake Havasu. Overall, we will have about 5 days to play, not including travel days.

Curious as to what you all might suggest as "must do" and "stay away" things in those areas.

I was thinking that Skywalk over the Grand Canyon would be fun, but it looks like they've made it complicated. Or am I just over-thinking it because of the way it's being advertised as packages and the access rules put in place by the tribe that manages it?

Hoover Dam?

London Bridge?

Best overall Grand Canyon experience?

What am I missing?

Note, there will be two adults and four kids (11-13 years old).

Any recommendations are appreciated!

I have friends that used to go to havasu on a weekly basis all i can say is it makes the play boy mansion look like church. And with all the guys throwing the hooker cards around in vegas i dont know how you get away from that. But other than that the hoover dam could be cool

I'm hoping the kids and girlfriend will dissuade the pimps from trying to tempt me with the cards. I heard about them today from a coworker.

If you stay on the strip it's actually pretty kid friendly in Vegas lots of family stuff to do . Get away from the strip and then not do much and after 10 pm probably not so much either

GC or Havasu --- I would do one or the other -- not sure about both. I would want a little down time. When you say the coming months -- i would go to Havasu ----- the temp in GC is coat gloves weather now and into fall----- To me GC is better in the spring summer unless if you like the possibility of white stuff. We used to do driving trips to laughlin from vegas; cant say much about havasu -- but i guarantee the weather is better. Thats all i have.

The world record sunfish 5 lb 7 oz or so was caught in Havasu a couple of years ago, the guy who caught it said 2 lb'rs are common. I had Todd almost convinced to take his boat down there until Bobkat posted pictures of what the mussels did to his boat.

Red Rock canyon is cool and only minutes west of Vegas.

The Grand Canyon is a fair drive from Vegas. Would recommend staying overnight near it rather than trying to make it a day trip. We hit the south entrance when we went. Amazing place.

Zion National Park is also super scenic.

In Vegas we rented an Airbnb, was awesome. We’ve had very good luck with Airbnb and Vrbo.

I'm hoping the kids and girlfriend will dissuade the pimps from trying to tempt me with the cards. I heard about them today from a coworker.

Not a chance! When I grew up in AZ we would go to Vegas for hockey tournaments every year. We'd collect them like baseball cards. I was probably 12-13 at the time.

Get a list of all the time of the free shows on the strip. The rollercoaster at NYNY is a must at night. If you and the gf get any time Freemont st is a lot of fun not as much for kids. It's been a while but there are quite a few state parks south of the Grandcanyon that are just as interesting to see. Old Volcanoes and Indian ruins. If you want to Venture into AZ a little further Sedona is probably just as interesting as the Grand Canyon.

the Hoover dam I was excited to go to. I got there and I was like ok cool let's go now.

Plenty of things to see and do in vegas

Check out a Vegas Golden Knights hockey game if they are in town. Even if you aren't a hockey fan (not sure if you are or not), it's always a good time. I went on a work trip with a few coworkers down to Denver last winter and we ended up hitting up a Avalanche game. My coworkers had never seen a hockey game before and they had the time of their lives! From all of my buddies going to Vegas for hockey games they said the atmosphere is absolutely awesome.

^Yep a Knights game would probably be great for the fam. I had a couple buddies last year that have always been anti-hockey people, They were NDSU Grads so didn't know any better:cool: Anyways , They ended up going to a Knights game and loved it, by the end of the year they were watching hockey playoffs.

Hoover Dam a must for kids. I saw in back in 73' and I still remember it well today. I haven't been back there but that will happen soon. It was amazing to see.
