I was lucky enough to harvest a buck in velvet and would like to make a Euro mount with it. I have done 10 other euro mounts but never one with velvet on the horns. I have the velvet preservation taken care of with a velvet tan embalming fluid stuff. My question is, will the heat from the boiling water mess up the velvet? Anyone have any experience with making a euro mount with a velvet buck? I read on the internet that some people say just to simmer the water and not boil and it turns out fine and others that say you have to cut off the horns, boil the head then reattach it. Thanks for any input

I just left my taxidermists. We actually talked about this. He cuts off the antlers and then reattaches.

For sure don't put the velvet antlers in with flesh eating beetles. I would guess that detaching would be the best with any method but can't say for sure.

As long as you get a good tight seal on it just wrap the hell out of them and you should be able to do it like normal. Just did a little looking now and here's a YouTube post on how to do it.
