Last fall I had my alarm go off in some heavy seas. right side heated up (transducer side). I shut down - restarted - ran faster and never had any issues. My engine is all the way up on the bolts. I plugged in my laptop the next morning and ran it at an idle and the engine remained at normal temps.

How often (hrs / years) do you guys replace water pump on your outboard.

Embarrased to say I have a 2002 75 merc that went until 2014. It still looked good when I changed it, my problem was a thermostat/poppit valve. Going forward I plan on changing every 3-4 seasons, depending on use. Fairly easy to do.

Every two years in the spring seems to work fine. After the first or second time changing it, it becomes an easy ten minute job.

Every 4-5 seasons has been our deal. I've ran a lot of Red River mud through my tiller and it is still going strong starting season 5 this year, but I will likely replace after this season.

Running the sandy Missouri river quite a little seems to do in my Yamaha 150 pump about every 3-4 years or every 150+- hours. I keep one on hand for when I need to do it so I am not stuck waiting on parts.

I have not had an impeller failure yet, but I replace it about every 5 years.

I like to check my impeller every time I winterize, just me... I like to tinker and like said before it can be a 10-15 min job once you know what your doing
