My former house had front yard issues, I round up killed the entire lawn, tilled it, leveled it, let it sit for a month, and round up killed everything a second time, tilled again, leveled it, then rented a big heavy roller thing to make the dirt level and smooth by crushing all the dirt chunks into a smooth surface.
I then hired a hydro spray guy and had him spray the lawn on, and within 3 weeks I had a good base and just filled in the thin spots with the same seed he used. Within a month and a half I had a choice yard that was the envy of the neighborhood.

You sound like you have a yard like my neighbor. I get pissed off every time I have to look at it.

It also costs you $8,000 in labor/supplies.

If quack grass is THAT happy to be on my property, I'll just accept it and cut it along with my own grass. I still spray and fertilize, but I'm not going to fight a weed/perennial to that degree. I'd rather mow and go fishing...

Semi-related note: I'm having issues with dog urine spots and will be raking the dead grass fairly soon, watering the urea out then reseeding. Should be fun.

Anyone know of a good fertilizer or any tricks to help reduce yellow spots on the yard (outside of having him use the neighbors yard)?

Isn't this more prevalent from female urine than male urine?

Again, more money spent..... They sell tablets at the pet stores you can buy to add to the dog's diet. Supposedly, (anything for a buck, right?) the tablets help reduce the urea content and keep the grass from burning up.

This seemed like a decent article, worth a read anyway. I dont have dogs but i've had to re-seed patches a few times.

One thing about crab and quack is that it can grow like crazy, creeps into gardens and flower beds and isn't nearly as nice on the bare feet. So, I can see why folks don't like it compared to a good looking Scott's turf.

I have allways had the yellow spots in the spring but im not 100% convinced they are dog urine spots. For 7 years I had a dog boarding kennel we would walk dogs twice a day on the same path, if dog urine cause these spots there shouldn't have been any grass in that area but it was the same as the rest of the yard for yellow spots.
