Well I've been pimping my ride so to speak this spring and upgrading a bunch of the gear on my little pond hopper. Got the last bit of gear for it yesterday and got it set up today and had to laugh and say I think I'm nuts but oh well I like it. Do allot of trout fishing so when I found a couple mini down riggers online I had to pick them up to go with the helix 9 and a bunch of new rod holders and trolling motor. Will be adding a few more of the back style holders in the bow for a place to store extra rods and the net out of the way. My buddy and I were laughing that we may have to drop her in at Sak in the fall on a nice day and see if we can't pick up a few Kings for shits and giggles. SS Pipsqueak ready to sail.:;:cheers

Love it, I felt kinda the same way when I put 2 cannon mag 10's on my 16' side console, not quite the pip squeak but hairy enough at times up there, I've been looking into getting some 3# balls for deeper eyes vs the leadcore

Haha SS Pipsqueak is a cool little boat. All you would need for Sakakawea is a 10 foot marine band whip with a flag so the other boats can see you and a few various sized bailing containers .

Haha yeah I already have a battery charge burning problem! :;:thumbsup

Haha I just thought of something dean , If you ever wish you had an outboard on it I'll give you a heck of a deal on one that is new and has never been taken out of the box. I think it's 2 HP Open for trades .

Thanks for the offer but gas motors tend to be more trouble then they are worth.

Just a friendly reminder on downriggers I have heard horror stories of guys snagging trees with there ball weights and flipping a 18 ft + boat in the wind. I have salmon fished for many years and always carry several wire cutters in case this happens. I have hooked a few trees and lost equipment over the years.

Yeah on big boats that can be a real issue. On this boat it won't be out in the wind and doesn't have the power to pull with so would just come to a screeching halt. Did see one time back in the mid 90's a guy get messed up. My buddy and I had a double going and it was his boat and as we faught the fish neither of us noticed the we had pinched a boat in towards the shore. It was crazy busy out there due to a good bite and the turny was that day. like most guys here he had a boat that was never designed for riggers and so when simultaneously both weights staged what I'm sure was a rocky bottom both riggers ripped off the boat and sank before he could even react. By the looks of it they were screwed into the wood on the top rail and it appeared to have a fair bit of rot to boot. Needless to say he was pissed at my buddy but the other boats took our side. according to what they said it was clear we were well into fiting the doubled and drifting in when he tried to pass on the inside from our blind spot. The shifty part of that day is when went over to check out the weight in it turns out we would have won the turny had we been in it. Either way it was a memorable day.

Dean - I understand the Sea Pimp can get you into smaller waters and such... However, Im curious if you've considered the cost in all the upgrades you could've purchased a decent aluminum boat (w/ older electronics included) to provide you a bit more room, mobility, safety, etc..

Nope have enough friends with bigger boats if needed. This boat spends most it's time in my folks yard on cottonwood lake in bismarck and big boats are not allowed in there. Hell i have a 12 with a 15 on it that has been parked for over a decade. Outside of the river this boats gets used more then the big boats do since the guys I fish with tend to spend much of our time outside of spring chasing bass and this thing is perfect for ghosting through the shallows pitching for bass without spooking them. In the end I would rather have this boat set up well then a small aluminum boat set up half ass. It was the huge uptick in small lakes that triggered the upgrades to make the boat able to fish anyway needed. The big push for the sonar was so I could map the lakes that I ice fish that won't be mapped by the state anytime soon. Plus it let's me mark rock piles or dead trees and if needed I can map the lake in 3D side scan data so we can see all underwater bottom hardness and structure come winter when the unit will be mounted on a four wheeler.

You should trade for one of those pedal-powered Hobie fishing kayaks. When inspiration strikes, they can be quite fast. Look for a You tube video titled "that's no catfish."

First off to noisy for what I do and they are too low for the type of fishing I do the most. The Squeak is as low to the water as I would ever go. The other thing is those kayaks are spendy as hell! If I was going to drop a couple grand on another boat it would be on this since it's a great platform for sight fishing well pitching for bass. And could be pretty kick ass for open water duck hunting.
