Just playing devils advocate here... It takes a good group of people to successfully run a raffle. There are hoops to jump through just to get it going, and then you need plenty of people to peddle tickets... This group may not have the volunteers necessary to get the maximum benefit from a raffle so the auction could be the best route...
I don't personally see the difference between this and the G&F auctioning off a bighorn tag.... sure the bighorn tag generates revenue to help the bighorn population, but even with this whitetail tag auction there is a requirement for some sort of conservation project to be done with some of the funds....
They followed the process and were picked to receive a tag... How they go about generating funds from that tag is up to them... don't like it, don't bid...
Maybe instead of bitching about hunting becoming a rich man's game on the internet, people should contact their reps and tell them there needs to be rules put in place that dictate how the NP groups can generate funds from these tags... That's just what this country needs... more stupid fucking laws and restrictions...
Honestly, I hope the tag goes for a shitload of money to do as much good as possible for the group that is auctioning it... It's been a few years since I drew a buck tag and I could give a shit less if this, or any other NP tags given out hurt my draw chances... The benefit to these NP groups will far outweigh the pain and suffering of myself not getting drawn for a tag....
