Does anyone have a whole house fan installed in their home? I'm contemplating putting one in and am just looking for any firsthand experience with them. I think it would be great to have on those days when it's hot but the evenings are nice and cool. From what I've read they work great for removing warm air from the house and attic. My concern would be sealing off/insulating the louvers during the winter months.

I would do this in a new home without question with a reverse switch for winter. Per your concern IMHO, insulation is key.

The attic is usually not hot in January...

Had one in my old house but not in my new one. We miss it. It worked well to keep your house cool on days when the air was cooler but the suns rays heated up the house. Didn't have to run the AC as often. It also worked very well in ventilating the house when you burned the dinner.
