I’ve found a 450 lb motorcycle gets pushed around A LOT more than a 850 lb in this wind.

Big surprise I know!! I just didn’t think about it and wasn’t expecting it!!

WOW is all I can say!

Today is by far the most dirt I've ever saw blow in the hills. We are 7 miles east of the prairie here in the hills with almost solid timber between us . There are sand hills to the west of the hills and this is heavy sand flying from the prairie and falling out. visibility about 1/2 mile even in sheltered areas. Sand that fills your eyes ,lungs and hair. I was out side for maybe 5 minutes total today and I feel sand in my eyes and hair and my bald head.

Story time.
Dirt storms like this really meant something to the old timers and the very reason most of them were so conservative. My parents would have been 10 in 1930 and the oldest old timer I knew would have been 52 in 1930. Back in the day when neighbors went back and forth to each others houses to visit over a cup of coffee and cookies they would sometimes share stories about the depression and WW days , I was intrigued with the stories and join in the conversation with questions and they were happy to share and compare both the good times and bad times of life ,along with some great friendly advice they acquired along the way.
Back then weather forecast was crude or non existent so all they could do is read the farmers almanac and the Bible and wonder. It was by far the biggest event in these peoples lives , fresh on thier mind was they were one drought away from some very hard times . Makes a guy wonder about todays weather forecast , how much advance notice would we have for a repeat of the dirty 30s ?

Two of my favorite old timers were my uncle born in 1892 and a neighbor born in 1879 Thanks to Google I got the ages right.
