M 80 lit on the end of a old aluminum arrow should do the trick. Those who are not dead will be deaf and blind.

Update on my yellowjacket experiment, they took most of the chicken from the can, left about a dime sized chunk which I think dried out too much in the sun. There are still some yellowjackets messing around my grapes, but number seems significantly reduced. Used to be easy to count a dozen and yesterday around 6pm I was only able to find 3 after looking for 5 minutes or so. Ill put out some more bait this weekend to see if I can finish them off! Bait container I hung in apple tree didnt work well, being clear I think its too hard for them to get in and out... Might work with a non clear container better.

When we had apple trees in our backyard, we had yellow jackets. they would also raid the hummingbird feeder until the feisty little birds ate enough of the wasps.
My solution was traps made from 2L pop bottles. Cut around the bottle near the shoulder, invert the top and stick it in the bottom part, and fill the bottle about 1/4 full of sugar water. The number of drowned wasps was impressive, and required almost daily emptying.

A shop vac with some water in the tank. Put the nozzle at the entry and let it run for a few hours at the end of the day. Do this for a couple days and it should take care of the hive. PS- dont open the shop vac for a few days when you are done..........

After having no luck plugging the hole, spraying with foam insecticide, and using Terro, the shop vac seems to have done the trick. Got half of a bag of those little pests! I think the colder nights may have also slowed things down but will keep watching in the afternoons when things warm up. Thanks for the advice.

The sugar water in a bottle works great!

May have to give that a try. The buggers were still there yesterday after the sun warmed things up. Sucked a few up but there are probably more. They seem a little lethargic now that the cool nights have cooled the ground that there nest is in.

If you know where the nest is, a good dose of tempo at night should do it. Mix up a gallon or two and just dump it down the hole.

I stumbled onto this nest a few days ago on a real hot windy day and didn't hear them till there was a big swarm around me, I thought it was yellow jackets but I didn't stick around long enough to verify. I went back for a picture today, The cold wet weather had them dormant so I couldn't tell what they were. the nest was just crawling on the hot windy day. 001.jpg

Its on the bottom of an old water tank with an inverted bottom about 16-24'' across . Its in my goody pile of old motorcycles , I leaned a bike against the tank and they exploded but I didn't get stung. I will get some better pictures to confirm but it sure looks like honey combs

Yup, I went back for more pics and they were out so I could see them. That tank is at least 24''. How and when is it safe to harvest ?

I like honey, but not when it is still in the honeycomb with the bee's.
