Well, after 20 plus years I've decided it's time to part ways with the good old Copenhagen. Going to the Doc next week and going to talk to him about different options for helping with the withdrawal pains. I've tried quitting in the past with minimal success so I know it's not going to be easy. I've been exercising and working on loosing weight since the new years and thought now is as good as time as any. Although my stress level has increased lately but I'm tired of using that as an excuse as I've done so many times before.

I know there's some of the guys on here have gone through this and I was wondering what kind of things everyone did to try and help with quitting. I know not everything will work for me and some things that work may not work for very long. Any ideas you've got or tried would be appreciated! Giving myself a couple weeks to get started so I'm looking to get prepared for a fight so wanting to stock pile some weapons/tools.

I need to quit as well. I was thinking of getting some hard candies. Just something as a substitute.

“The thinking behind new Nicorette Suppositories®,” explained Kahn in a recent Time interterview, “is essentially pulling a classic bait-and-switch on your body.
“The idea is to make our customers’ replacing-action more sensationally memorable than physically lighting and holding a cigarette,” she elaborated. “Teach your body that putting a capsule into your asshole feels better than holding a cigarette between your fingers, and you’re well on your way to eradicating the psychological desire to smoke.”

I had a tooth get extracted a year ago and the experience was unpleasant enough to quit chewing (even though the two might not even be related).

I never took up the tobacco habit at all, never could take being around the smoke as a kid so that was a no brainer even though both parents smoked up until I was around 10 years old and chew never agreed with me especially the cope and skoal and all the ground ones but I did absolutely love the taste of the whole leaf tobacco my body rebelled against it so I was a lucky one I guess. I know folks like 2 of my brother in-laws who used chew to quit smoking and just wound up being dual tobacco users lol.
Only habit I have is my love of fermented or distilled libations:;:cheers

My kudos go out to anyone who can overcome it and have the will power long enough to break the habit long term. Stay strong.

It's a little frustrating to me looking for info/suggestions for quitting chewing when most all tobacco cessation sites are so focused on smoking with very little emphasis on chewing tobacco. It's like us chewers are the bastard children that don't even get much of a second thought for how hard it is to quit. From what I've read we deal with kicking a stronger addiction due to higher levels of nicotine intake than smokers. After all we can have a dip in when smokers aren't allowed to smoke and it can be constant use instead of the "on/off" of smoking.

Had kicked my habit once for about 10 months then was foolish enough to start again. What helped last time was chewing gum and set it in my lip just like a dip hard candies helped as well. Luckily I never had any pains or headaches. I have been working myself down lately to stop again but make it stick this time.
Good Luck

these saved my bacon about 6-7 years ago when I quit
they made a plain tobacco flavor too
not sure if Stonewall still sells them though (because internet frowns on tobacco sales... sickening violent porn is OK but not tobacco)
stonewall_wintergreen_pills.jpg

they are like a hard compressed "candy" that slowly melts in your cheek like a tiny wad of chew

drip feed is critical to the cure IMO

I'm looking at doing the same. Thinking I will go with sugar free stuff to avoid the calories. It's a way to put weight on and I'm trying to loose weight already. Granted you wouldn't think the candies would make much difference but calories add up when you start sucking on them all day long dealing with quitting.

Soak wood tooth picks in different types of healthy essential oils and use that instead of candies.;)

I am currently on day 8 of being a quitter! I have had my moments, but for the most part it has been easier than I thought going cold turkey. I was already in the dumps with the loss of my Mom and my hunting dog in the last couple weeks. So I figured, I am already miserable so I might as well make it worse and get over everything at the same time. I still get the craving pretty hard first thing in the morning, after eating, and when I am relaxing at night. When it happens, I either chew some gum or find something to occupy my time for 10 mins or so and normally the craving has passed.

Good luck with quitting, you can do it! Oh yeah, I also downloaded an app on my phone that tracks the days quite, money saved, etc. I like seeing what I am saving for money, means more toys later!

I tried a couple times with using that fake chew shit, jerky, etc. Never worked. I unfortunately became an unbearable bastard by about day 10 without nicotine. Last March I was sitting in my office and said F it and dumped my Cope in the garbage. I then went and bought the patch and gum. Followed the patch plan and supplementEd with gum as needed. Haven't touched chew since. I'm an advocate of using those products because they work. There is no shame in slapping a patch on in the mornings if it keeps chew out of your mouth

Good Luck Everyone that's trying to "Dump the Dip". I dumped the dip in 7th grade when I swallowed about a 1/4 of a can of copenhagen and spent the next few hours trying to find out if it's physically possible to invert ones digestive system by way of strong and repeated full throttle abdominal contractions.
