Took my 3.5 yr old out fishing over the weekend and he did great. We had the snoopy pole out last year and this year, I thought I would see how he did with the shortest spinning pole I have (6 ft). He worked that thing awesome, however, it was a bit large for him. He knows how to use them from ice fishing.
So my question, what would be a great pole for him. I know he is going to smack it into anything and everything to start with so it needs to be decently durable. Also it might end up in the drink. It was trying to cast it, but his little hands couldn't manage the reel and the rod at the same time (slip bobber fishing). So if there is a good reel for kids I am all ears as well.
He did so well, I think I might have a full time fishing partner. To see his face light up when he saw his bobber go down and start reeling frantically was AWESOME. Pure and raw enthusiasm. He managed close to 10 sunfish and perch (roughly 30 minutes, I know, they were biting slow) before he decided we had to take the boat around the lake.
