IMO if you buy a license in January, it should be good for 1 year, not 3 months. No reason they couldnt allow a license to be good for 12 months from the date of purchase. If they refuse to do this, at least you should get a discounted price if your license will only be good for a few months... What say you?:;:lame

Its like $10. I'm ok with it. ha

Would be easier if it was a calendar year license probably. Jan 1 through December 31.

Yeah I agree that paying full price for say a month of fishing, then have to pay full price again a month later seems unfair. But yeah it is very inexpensive too

That's how I feel when I buy a $6 crank and pull it for 30 yards only to have it snapped off by a gator.

Stupid poll didnt work, said I took too long to type the questions or some bullshit, bummer....
Its really not about the money as much as the idea that you could have to pay full price for a day of fishing when it really wouldnt be very hard for them to allow people a full year, its a rip off and unnecessary IMO.

If you leave your car unlocked and I go in and just take the change thats in your ash tray, but leave your wallet would you be ok with that also?

buy the license every year right when they expire. I only buy sportsman down here and do i ton feb 1st every year so meh. So if it is alot of money start saving a buck every week then when it expires you will be able to by a new one. The car comparison is dumb

If given that choice between 2.00 and 1000.00 you can have all the change you want. Then would you prefer getting shot for 2.00 or the 1000.oo? Makes no difference to me.

I do buy the sportsman license every March like Rusty.

Don't they offer a 3 day or 7 day license anymore or is that for NR? What's just a fishing license cost? Not sure it's that big a deal to most. If you want more bang for your buck buy it earlier and use it more.

I've bought a sportsmans license ever since they came out.

As stated zero reason to buy a license in January. Unless you're a dead of winter/late ice purist and don't fish anytime after March 31

I think most of you dont understand what Im saying. Just because it wouldnt affect you, doesnt mean that it doesnt affect some people... It would be an easy fix that would make it more fair for everyone.

Maybe we could try this approach. Tell me why having a fishing license be good for 12 months from the date of purchase would be a bad thing, if you can think of a reason...

I would envision a lot more "fishing without a valid license" tickets if there were 365 possible days for mine to expire. As it stands now, there's a set date that someone should know if they've bee fishing for more than a couple of years in ND.

Careful Lycan, your cheapness is showing. A resident license for a year is 16 bucks. Prorated that is $1.33 a month. So you want to rearrange the whole fishing license system and send ND fishermen into the unknown to save yourself a couple of bucks??? Sorry, but I'll have to vote NO on that idea.

After a quick bit of research (google), I found the following.

States that went from a set date to a license that's valid for 1 year from purchase date saw a reduction in license sales revenew and an increase in licensure gaps, because people were waiting until the last possible minute to renew, or they would let their license lapse in the months they didn't fish.

Also state fishery agencies receive federal money from the Sport Fish Restoration Act. This grant is based partially on the number of licenses issued in the state. More license gaps and lapses mean less $ for state fishery agencies. More license revenue means more money going into the fisheries.

Better answer?

Seriously? You dont think an automated email reminding people when their license is going to expire would solve that?
