As many boats that have been just south of the Lakewood entrance, I'm still seeing people get dangerously close to the jetty that is now underwater. I have one friend (I wont name names) that took out a lower unit already and I watched an alumacraft smack into it on sunday. Just a heads up!

Good reminder. Not to hijack this thread, but my daughter was wondering if there is public walk in access to that sandy area just above the jetty.....does anyone know?

Sluggo, I don't think there's public access. That's all residential to the west.

Well they don't call that neighborhood Jetty Beach for no reason!:;:thumbsup as for getting down to the beach the question I have is does Mandan have any trespass laws that supersede that of the states? If not then theoretically any unposted lot could be used as an access point at least until you're told to leave. Now this year would not be a very good time to go down there because the rivers level right now is pretty much right at ordinary high-water Mark leaving very little public land if any above it.

The properties are techically morton county. Looked at buying a fixer-upper down there and found out that it's classified as rural.

People that put shit like that in the river should be held liable for the damages they do.

that whole shore (which is probably underwater right now) is owned by a Scott Johnson, owns the land on both sides of the houses and to the south

Yeah but only up to the southern edge of Lakewood development From there north it's public right up to grass in the people's yards leaving a decent sized beach wide open if you can get to it.

I don't think it was really "put in the river". There was some serious erosion during the flood, before that it was basically a normal point that was always above water, and there was a little inlet to the north of it. The whole thing eroded leaving a rock jetti sticking out into the river. Go to google earth and scroll back to 2010.

Not for the whole area that what was asked for. The question wasn't how to get on just jetty beach the question was how to get on the beach north of the jetty. That beach runs all the way up to Lakewood and that according to onx is an open beach it just depends on mandan city trespass law for the vacant lot that's on that street if it is in fact still vacant for that matter.

You would have to be quite the river newbie to hit that rock pile. It makes quite a disturbance on the surface. It’s pretty obvious something big and ugly is under the water there.

Watched two guys ramp their aluminum boat right over it, north to south, about two weeks ago. Craziest thing I've seen on open water! By the time I got my stuff all buttoned up to go check on them, they had their kicker pushing them to fox island ramp.

Bfishn, While I have no personal knowledge of that rockpile. It sure looks man-made to me. I'd have guessed it was installed to protect the land to the south of it from erosion. Google Earth Pro goes all the way back to 1991, there was a back channel there that allowed those homes to have boat docks. I suppose that back channel eventually sedimented in with blowing sands, etc.

Again, if I had to guess, I'd bet it was installed to try and encourage that portion of Mr Johnson's land to accumulate sand and allow for eventual development. It's done along the east coast of the U.S. all the time, sometimes it works...other times it creates more problems.
