I saw Sandy flesh once. It was on a 6 pound walleye we found floating in the bay at Indian Hills. It will still kicking but obviously it was not going to live. Put knife in it and wondered what the hell we were looking at. Very weird. That was circa 1990

They don't necessarily have to look freezer burned from what I remember about it, You can usually see the "grain" of the fish but there was no grain to the meat in the affected area just mush. You could rub a depression in the affected area with your finger with very little pressure.

just last week or so NDA put that picture of ahab up with his hands holding high on FB---- -and of course it drew in a troll. The troll had a hand holding out a nice salmon - clearly on land -- you knew that it was going to be cut. Irony -- i would swear the end of the world is coming - -- everybody is bitching on social media. Graff a cold one and pound it. Enjoy life.

I'll keep some bigger fish about once or twice a year. Usually with guys that want meat and that's all we are catching. Then I will go out by myself or with buds that don't really care about meat and release all fish in good shape. It works out in the wash. I've cleaned a few derby/tourney fish(27-29 inches) and they were delicious with all the red meat trimmed off. Even grilled a 29" and it had big, delicious flakes of white meat. Not endorsing it at all as I like to let them go as much as the next guy, but it isn't the end of the world and they don't taste bad.

I don't get on people for keeping big fish. Keep what you want but you won't in my boat.

What's worse? A guy cleaning a few big fish or the guy with a camper on devils who kills 500 fish between 13-17" fish every summer?

I find that 26-29 inch walleye make good chum. Just cut them in small chunks and use it for chum to catch other wallley, perch, carp, etc.

Along the lines of what Bowhunter 24 said, I just don't understand some guys who are retired or whatever and fish 3-5 days a week and ALWAYS keep a limit. I fish 1-2 times a week and that is way plenty fish for us to eat. Of course they're usually the ones that bitch the most when a guy keeps a big fish even though he might only fish a couple times a month on the weekends.

Are you saying there should be a limit on how many fish a guy can keep in a year? like maybe tags? :;:stirthepot

I don't have this problem. I only catch fish less than 18". Large fish are a western half of the state problem!:::

The guy on the left is obviously embarrassed.

This^^.

However, I'm guilty of making an exception when in a tournament, which is not often....and it bothers me to keep them. I release way more fish than I keep.

Question: How do you guys manage to take a picture holding more than 1 very large fish if you are releasing them?
