You all are giving me flashbacks to a short-notice trip I had to make last fall to Lake Havasu, AZ. Thought I'd take a new route and go west from Denver on I70.

Worst effing mistake I've made in years! Driving my 2021 F250 with its ridiculously stiff suspension and pulling an 18 ft enclosed trailer was a very miserable experience until I got the hell out of Colorado. Sis, niece, and Ma got absolutely no sleep on that stretch of road. Beautiful country, but I won't be driving my truck on that poorly maintained POS anytime soon, maybe ever.

Those bridges at McIntosh and by thunder hawk were actually 2 years over schedule due to rail road stuff and will end up in court with how messed up they were that whole stretch will get paved by two different contractors this summer. Then 12 from Mobridge to the grand is getting done that has to be one of the worst stretches of road in the state
I was thinking the bridge in the Morristown section went well this summer. But forgot about how long the two bridges over the tracks took. They’ve been doing them for now three years when I think about it.

Good to hear on 12 east of the grand. Not many reason to be happy getting to McLaughlin but in that road I am!

Rain total from Sunday thru Monday night was 3 & 5/16 inch. I'm calling that rd 2. Rd 1 Thursday n Friday had 4.75 in. So just over 8 inches in last 4 or 5 days! Yates area.

Hearing 8” around Hwy 12 in SD too. Most of the first stuff went into the ground. Finally seeing decent run off. Planting was late, this is going to push things way back. Guessing lots of sunflowers in that area this year. Wheat that made it in before will have a good shot though!

An additional .9 and counting. Still not much for puddles. Thirsty Dirt just doesn't quite describe how dry we were. I'm thankful for every drop. The alfalfa was looking scrabby.

I'm hoping we are still just early enough to allow the forage to rebound. I read a paper one time out of NDSU that showed about 75% of all native forage is produced before the 4th of July, or something like that...it was quite a few years ago that I read it. Anyway, the point is it showed just how critical it is for most of our hay crops to get a good head start and go strong through May and June. These rains out west will do more than just prevent wildfires.

My gauge in bismarck is right around 4.9 inches since all this started... So much for all the fertilizer I put down last week, its probably half way to the Gulf of America by now!

I have no idea what we got up North but it's been a nice slow soaker and with the heat wave earlier there was a nice flush of weeds in the garden. Lycan, this right up your ally, I'm on a mission to make a couple bullet proof rain gauges of some sort, I used to like the long tube store bought ones with a funnel but they attract honey bees and they get in there and can't get out and die. Not fond of the small plastic or glass ones either . All I need is a straight column and the rest is pretty easy .

Flood warning down here for oak creek which i was surprised to see

As much as you like ducks, at this point I'd like to see Mother Nature pull back a bit. Three days ago, there was almost no standing water in the fields on my way to work in Bismarck. Day before yesterday, there were spots with standing water in some of the fields I drive by. Today there was quite a bit of standing water in the fields I drive by. We need some sun now to take advantage of what's been received.

And, the dam in my backyard only had a trickle coming out of it until day before yesterday. Now she's got a goodly amount going through the culvert.
