As a teacher, hunter, having done the concealed permit training...I would want MAJOR training before I'd feel prepared to be armed in a school. Our building, being downtown, has interior classroom surrounded by outer rooms. Some have windows connecting rooms. Lots of variables and lots of people beyond your intended target. Like I tell my students, we have our plan for a lock down emergency, but when the SHTF I'd think putting your plan into action is difficult on the spot. I teach HS...so many of my students are bigger than me. Totally different scenario when trying to protect elementary kids I'm sure.

Understand, the point is being "forced" to carry as he stated.
OK, how about let every willing teacher or staff member carry as long as they take training and pass background checks. This would also be for the safety of the staff. It the shooter knows they are entering a school where they might face resistance, they are more likely to avoid this target. At least it would minimize the casualties. The "Gun Free Zones" are a magnet for these crazies......Aren't the children's lives worth it?

I bet there is at least one teacher or faculty member in every school willing to take classes and carry hell I bet Evan in liberal schools you could find one if you make it voluntary and add some incentive higher pay I think it might be possible

Seems like a lot of these evil nutjobs don’t plan on making it out alive anyway. Is getting shot by a teacher vs a cop or themselves really a deterrent as long as they wreak havoc? And as much as you guys hate taxes or raising public school budgets, how is this paid for?

IMO, this is my opinion, only my opinion you see. If you want to secure a school, you have to bring in people that aren't looking to gain the students trust or gives two shits about who's who in the school. Don't care who their daddy is or if they are capt of the football team, chief nerd, president of the chess club, head cheerleader, or anything else. You need guys that will "neutralize" any POS looking to hurt the students regardless of their age, sexuality, race, gender, mental health issues, political views, or the price of rice in china. Teachers DON'T qualify. They tend to have emotional attachments to the students that may interfere with said "neutralization" should the need arise. Then you need to rotate these guys between the schools so it's less likely these guys will begin to develop student knowledge and or relationships. They have ONE job. Protect the students. Not to mentor, not to set a good example, not to guide them into adulthood. You armor them up and give them enough firepower to go up against any AK47 wielding dirtbag and have a better than average chance that when LE shows up, it's all over. Have teams of 3 on rotating 6 hour shifts that start an hour before classes and end an hour after extra curricular activities are finished. One open access point to the building during class hours manned at all times from protected cover and two rovers. 6 week assignments at each participating school and then you rotate. Draw from a pool of qualified personnel with standardized skills and training requirements, continuing proficiency quals, good insurances, and decent pay. Is it extreme? Probably. Will it happen? Probably not. However, IMO, this is a good framework to secure a school if one really wants it secured. Carry On!

That’s what you got out of that? If it were up to me every school would have armed security. What I’m saying is I don’t believe training and arming unwilling teachers is the solution.

Kdm that would 100% work. I would hope we aren't that far gone, I am thinking deterrent rather then all out security team. If an individual thinks they might be stopped before thier goal is met they are less likely to strike that target.

How long does it take police to get there? The staff is already there. They can respond immediately and minimize the damage. There is no 100% solution, but the best hopeful outcome is to minimize the damage! I know of some churches that have 2 unmarked people at every service that carry and if some crazy comes in with a gun they will be dealt with very quickly. If you have to wait for the police, as good as they are, many people will probably die. A good example was the crazed shooter in a Texas church, when a volunteer security guard killed the attacker, ending the incident in seconds.

Teacher shoots misses and hits an innocent kid -- lawsuit includes the school do i need to go on?

Again secure the school and do it right; nothing is 100% may not totally prevent it. EOS

Your at least getting closer to reality. Guaranteed there would be a hell of a lot more training than just knowing how to handle a firearm.
I'm all in on @KDM's plan .

How about we teach them to read first! Between sports and every other side thing it’s no wonder kids can’t read or add anymore. And now you want to add more.
