Canadian fires will continue until Canada can get their emerald borer controlled, it won't help with the adults since the larvae are the ones who are destroying the trees, but if you thin out and continually spray for the adults eventually there will be less larvae. But not doin anything is criminal. The same can be said with our own states that dont clean up by controlled burning of areas that are located in populace areas. The issue and its only going to get worse is that humans are using less wood and the trees that are being planted are of a specific type that are fast growing making them of lower quality lumber. You cant keep crying co2 emissions need to be lower and allow thousands of acres of a natural resource to go up in flames.

Look at a map! You can’t “control” burn those large of areas where people dont even live. Droughts and warmer temps are only going to increase them.

You can absolutely do controlled burns in high risk areas, just because areas are unpopulated fires could be started using plane or drones during off months, like in the winter when the chance of them getting out of control are less and the impact to populated areas is less also. Smoke in January affects a lot less people than smoke in july.

United States can't even control there own territory with controlled burns. Canada is about twice as remote as the US.
Never gonna happen in my lifetime. It does suck but mother nature can start them faster than they can be put out.

I don't know why so many people have issues with the smoke. Doesn't seem to bother me at all. I've never smoked personally but was around smokers a lot in my youth. Seems like people now days can't handle much of anything. Getting too soft as a society IMO.

I do think it would be reasonable for states being harmed by smoke from states who dont manage their forests properly to sue for damages, but not sure the federal govt should be involved with that.

is it stupid to sue if someone in causing you harm due to negligence or malice?

Only one getting rich is the lawyers.

Just like the NAWS project was in court for years and years and years because Manitoba is afraid, they will get unwanted organisms in their water. Now we have to treat the water 2 times (spent hundreds of millions of dollars for a water treatment plant at Max) just in case a drop of water would end up in the Mouse River.

I suppose they could pass legislation at the federal level specifying how states need to manage their forests, but Im sure there would be a lot of crying about that.
