And how much did that wild game cost per lb? Used to have some deer hunters that hunted my land, told me they were meat hunters. One always had to buy a new rifle for the season. Drove 50 miles just to come here to hunt and then did alot of road hunting. I told him I'd buy beef with all the money he spent to shoot a deer if meat was the goal.
I don't ever want to figure out what my walleye costs me per lb to catch. lol
I guess I don't care? Hunting is my entertainment. It's what I do instead of playing video games or going to the bar or spending money on sporting events. Or golf *puke*

The benefits of hunting and fishing are I get to do something I enjoy immensely, and also fill my freezer. Most folks spend all their money on other crap and STILL have to buy meat.

But to your point, I'm not a gear head. I haven't bought anything substantial in years. Other than ammo and gas, I've invested in my hunting stuff and now can enjoy it.

If you want to think of it another way, do you quantify how much your groceries cost by factoring in the amount of money you paid for the truck you bought to bring you to Hornbacher's? I doubt it.

I believe the usda inspection requirements for back yard butchers are over exaggerated when we see that those meat packing plants are the ones who need oversight when the overhead cost to keep contamination down is second.or third priority. I grew up on a hobby farm as a kid and we butchered chickens and pigs to supplement a one income household, and we sold to locals throughout high-school years never had an issue with a bad product.

I've been seeing some stuff where beef that's butchered by a farmer is sold in bags labeled "NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION." It's a loophole. While I or you or they would it eat no problem, because it specifically has it on the finished product, they can sell it straight to the consumer without all the BS. It's funny because while the label may say otherwise, nobody making dog food would cut out perfectly sliced ribeyes ;)

^^^^^^^^

Makes sense. Should one eat it and get sick it is on the consumer, not producer. Would think it can help producer and consumer by cutting out the middle man and government.

Most restaurant steaks at this point are junk and are choice grade at best . I have ran across a couple good deals on prime ribeyes or filets and I pick them up

I've seen/bought some "prime" steak cuts lately that should really be labeled "choice" at best!
Are the standards for grading falling that bad?
