Along the line of scan codes the same could be done with GIS mapping that is already in place. One time mandatory registration for landowners and your done with it, Color coded property lines and info boxes and there is no question, No more headaches , No more infamous Davey crockett posts about stolen ladders . Wait, You can't expect everything but it's a start. And the chips , Who want's in on the cash end of it ?

haha, as a young newbe hunter my MO was to push the signature issue, or that the field was not legally posted... farmers never saw my point as mattering one effing bit.

If its an old tire on a fence post, its not legally posted, but the farmer is still going to chew your ass and about kill you for being a smarty pants.

I've shot some of my biggest deer with a bow on unposted land. If it was suddenly all posted that would suck. I'm sure there are a lot of bowhunters like myself that scout all land possible looking for a big buck. Instead of hunting one piece of ground and hoping there is a big buck.
Ive hunted unposted land bordering posted land hoping a buck will make a mistake. Leave it the way it is!

This may be coming from my first 20 years spent in SD, where you need to get permission for private land regardless of posting, but I think ND should go to that as well.

Yes, the idea of being able to hunt a bunch of private land without tracking down the land owner sounds good, but those ‘good old days’ are largely over anyway.
We’ve all seen the signs of the ‘posted’ problem. They’re right here among various posts on this very site.
-- More and more land is being posted. Mostly in response to asshat-ery on the land.
-- Tales of people not respecting the postedness of the land.
-- Excuses like “the signs weren’t spaced close enough”, “didn’t have a signature”, pick your retarded excuse for hunting a piece of land that you know you shouldn’t.
-- Tales of someone stealing someone else’s “spot” or “deer” on unposted land.

Now certainly this wouldn't completely cure all duchebaggery and asshatery, but it would make a number of scenarios more black and white.

When you contact the land owner to get permission and build a relationship, there are a number of advantages:
-- You know who else has permission and when they may be out there.
-- The proper boundaries so you don’t end up on GrumpyRancherX’s land.
-- You find out about other pieces of land the same landowner has
-- You may get the names of other land owners (new leads)

Thoughts?

Or maybe you could move back to SD since you like the way they do things. Don't move to another state or town and try to bring your rules/culture with you. This is the same issues we are having with the Mexicans & Muslims that are trying to get us to change to their way of living.

The ones that are causing the problems now are breaking the law so how would that change by changing the law. The only thing this would accomplish is the law abiding hunters would be the only ones affected. Does " don't blame the gun blame the shooter " sound familiar?

I find it easier to receive permission to hunt Roosters on posted land after deer gun season. Also..when asking farmer..its a good idea to say you brought a rifle as well in case I see any yotes. THAT opens the conversation up usually. What they say.."if you want coyotes..have at it".
Also..ask them..."if we happen to harvest some pheasants...would you and the Mrs's want a couple if we cleaned them for you? " Amazing what some good manners could open up....for many many future hunts. If they dont' care for some birds, I have made it a point to pick up a gift certificate at the local watering hole/restaurant and thank them for letting me hunt. Then..on occasion if I know I will be in the area at ANY Time through out the next year, I will pull out a pack of my stash of frozen perch/walleyes and stop by their farm and give to them..just thanking again. MOST LOVE THIS as MOST don't have a chance to eat fish very often.
Something to keep in mind folks. BE NICE...as I am quite sure many are sick of the jerks and just want to be sociable and have hunters respect them and their land.

The current system is failing due to miss managing numbers by G&F…has nothing to do with land access.

However in their defense how do you properly manage numbers when you don’t truly know what those numbers are…

3rooster I've been doing that for years and it works well. my two cents is North Dakota is fine you just have to ask. South Dakotas system would suck trying to find out who owns the land. Guywithdifferentsighs Great idea you should work on that.

There's plenty of things pushing me to becoming a strict fisherman. The one thing that keeps me hunting is the taste of backstraps and onions. Coincidentally, I will be having that for dinner tonight. Carry on.

I hate getting my Arsh Chewed for asking to hunt. I got totally bling sided for asking a guy to hunt Doves. Somebody sure pissed him off at one time. So I'm not real hip about pestering land owners to hunt. Opening weekend for deer we had a land owner block us on a section line that took us to corp land. his lifted dodge was bigger then ours. I wasn't going to get into a pissin match even though we were legal. we left and I called the warden
