I am curious what everyone thinks about fishing clubs. There is a small club in Minot here, and I am considering helping them out and/or taking over running it for them. I know there are some very successful clubs in the state, and it sounds like a ton of fun. Going to Winnipeg with a 100+ like minded folks, chasing greenbacks would be a hoot. (just an example of what a Fargo club is able to do)

So what does it take to have a successful club? What should a guy be careful of? Anyone in the Minot region interested in something like this?

Thanks for any feedback.

hmmm. Not my cup of tea. I have been involved in a couple fishing clubs and everything ends up being centered around tourney fishing which is gross.

I assumed it was around get-togethers, and events. Helping promote fishing, youth events, etc ...

I wondered the same. But, I think I would enjoy getting to meet like minded folks, and toss a few beers back.

I like the idea of doing get-togethers, and maybe some youth event stuff.

Joining a fishing club sounds like an excellent ice pirate opportunity.

Step 1: Become "friends" with the locals.

Step 2: Gain their trust.

Step 3: Buy many rounds of beer.

Step 4: Learn all their secrets.

Step 5: Suddenly stop attending meetings and pirate their fishing spots instead. Winning!

Getting the youth involved is more important nowadays than any other time frame. Get a kid hooked on fishing instead of other bad stuff. The outdoors are a thing of the past for youngins. Nowadays they are more concerned with games and other garbage.

The money that I give Reel and Rec has gone to good causes, ramps, shelters, take a kid fishing, the stairs at the heskett.planting trees at new johns. yea I understand about the fishing tournament but that's a big part of the money for projects. The good stuff they do out weighs the neg. V take that club over and turn it into something good, get the next generation started.

I know in Devils Lake if it wasn't for the local fishing club (The Lake Region Anglers Association) there wouldn't be an indoor cleaning station, cleaning stations at many of the boat ramps, and as many public ramps as there are, or as nice of boat ramps that we have. The LRAA's members have worked pretty hard over the years finding sites, raising funds, helping clean up sites, putting docks in and pulling them in the fall, repairing docks, and in general taking the lead in getting all the different government agencies together to build what the Devils Lake area has for all of us anglers.

I think someone said something about they see nothing in these clubs for them. Well if you fish Devils Lake, there's been a lot in it for you. So, you can sit on the sidelines and be happy or bemoan what you do have or you can help make a difference. And while you don't need to be a club member to make a difference, it sure helps when there's more than just one of you stepping up to the plate.

I was in the lake region anglers club and went to almost every meeting for 2 years. The people who tout that club so vehemently rarely if at all were present at the meetings. I did enjoy the lake region anglers club though and they have done some great things for the community and lake. Back when i was involved the meetings were at felix's. Just sayin...

The club in SW ND has a kids fishing day, it is absolutely awesome. They gather at the Dickinson Dike, and each kid gets a cup of bait, a pole if they don't have one, and a couple hours of fishing in. At the end of the fishing time they gather the kids up award prizes for big fish etc. and hand each kid a door prize which is usually a fairly nice gift. They also have lunch of hot dogs, chips, pop, and a desert.

These guys do a great job, and my kids always looked forward to it.

I think people that volunteer their time and money to give to the community, or kids, are truly the people that join these clubs. Its not to get something for themselves, it is to give of themselves to others.
If more of us did this type of stuff it would sure be neat.

I've had some light involvement with the NoDak Anglers in Minot. I miss a ton of the meetings because of work but I enjoy being around all of the guys and gals. Met some really good friends that way. Also a great opportunity for a non-walleye angler like myself to learn a thing or two. This club has done very little fishing in the past and has instead done fundraisers and such.

I'm also a member of the Badlands Bass Bandits. That's much different and 100% about tournament fishing.

Either way, I'm a fan of the club atmosphere.
