RR Red River 7-4-23

Not much different this week. Post spawn has the fish starting to move to a more summer mid river pattern. The best fishing has continued to be in the middle of the river holes in or near the main current. Sitting on them 25-30 minutes sit has been the key to bigger fish. Goldeye has been the best bait with frogs also showing signs and with water temperature nearing 80 they are starting to take frozen baits.

This Saturday, July 8th is the 2nd Moorhead Catfish Tournament at MB Johnson Park. Entry is $120 per boat and they are accepting walk up entries until 7am. This is a fun little one-day event. More information at www. I29classic.com

Boy kept a cat this last time at McKenzie for table fare, was pretty good, prepared it on the pit boss in tinfoil full of butter and seasoning. Was actually quite good. We however have never really cleaned one prior, so was some wasted meat for sure.

Cats from the tailrace are very good eating . We go there every late summer a time or two just to target cats

I've eaten many smaller cats off the Red, Sheyenne, Rush...ect. I really like them, however my family are walleye snobs so I don't fish for them much anymore.

Clip the dorsal and pecs then fillet like anything else. I trim out all the red meat with anything.

Yes some do. This year with the smaller average fish clients have been taking more home than in the past.
