    Pheasant Opener

Have fun! All the corn is still standing out here, which means that's where the birds will be. Plus, plenty of ducks and geese around still. I'll let the fair-weather hunters burn boot leather until the crops are off. Then it's go time.

    Sad deal

I just read another story that claims a friend was watching him retrieve a duck, and saw him start to struggle on the way out. Then called the cops.

    Sad deal

Not that I've ever experienced. I have a belt that holds shotgun shells, but it's certainly not tight enough to hold out incoming water.

    Migration

Phez is this weekend. Will open a whole 'nother can of worms. And really, MEA weekend is the worst. I think this year it's Oct. 20-21 or something like that. Freaking gong show.

I believe you mean Nean Delson.

    Sad deal

Looks like yesterday was a mighty windy afternoon by Tuttle with gusts over 40mph. Wouldn't take much to have a big wave go over your waders as you walked out to get a bird.

    Migration

Wind still booking out of the south here. I think it's supposed to switch to the west and then north this weekend. Might see a few fresh birds, but I doubt there will be many. Seems like recent years the best pushes have been during deer opener.

    Sad deal

Oh man. That's awful. "Struggled in the water" leads me to believe he got into some crotch-deep muck and couldn't' get out. No mention of a boat or anything. I've had a few close calls walking across cattails there were floating and didn't realize until it was too late, I'd busted through...

    Remington 700 in .308

If there's one gripe about my 700 it's that the trigger is heavy. But there is ZERO creep. In fact, it still startles me to this day and I've been shooting it since I was 16. It goes from feeling like you're pressing against a wall to the sharp kick of the ought-six. I've mulled the idea of...

    Remington 700 in .308

Oh good grief. I got your back. People really are fun haters these days. Can't even talk about guns without putting someone panties in a knot. A Remington 700 in .30-06 is the first and only centerfire rifle I own. It works for me, although I honestly have nothing to compare it to.

    Cold Front.....

I, for one, am anticipating greatly the cooler weather. Took the boy out yesterday afternoon for a slough duck hunt, and we were eaten alive as the light and wind waned. I'm hate mosquitoes. Luckily the ducks cooperated.

    Lost Dog

Call the cops. Nice looking dog like that hanging out in a yard could have very easily been stolen, especially if you're in a more rural part of town. He chipped?? Get on the horn with the are shelters, too.

    Red River Zebra Mussels

They're pretty well established in Lake Winnipeg already. A former colleague who leaves in Winnipeg posted pictures this summer of his kids finding freshwater clams absolutely covered in Zebra Mussels.

Geeze, the G&F deputies are out in full force here. Please don't drag Nodakangler to FB levels. Please....

    Canted Scope Reticle?

Can you explain that part? Do you mean you'd be off because you're less accurate judging holdover with skewed crosshairs?

    Canted Scope Reticle?

Ah. So for the tinkerer or the guys who don't like to rely on Kentucky Windage. I can respect that. I don't think my Leopold hasn't moved since I set it 15 years ago.

    Deer Down

He texted me the pic! told me to post it for all to enjoy. I think he has his arms extended:

    Canted Scope Reticle?

Dumb novice question, but does it matter if the reticle is canted? I mean, the center and your POI shouldn't change because it's tilted a bit one way or another, right? I guess I've never even looked that hard down my scope before. Then again, I'm rarely poking at deer beyond 100 yards. So it...

Wet opener---who is taking the rain on?

Ditto. I'd almost considered returning my 870 when I first got it because of all the stuck shells and jams. Eventually I guess it happened enough that it "broke in" and it works well now. Had no such break-in period with the M2. It's worked as it should since Day 1, in layout blinds and out...

    Hornady's One Shot

I read this comprehensive comparison/review of gun lube awhile back (http://www.dayattherange.com/?page_id=3667) and spurred for the Frog Lube. It worked as advertised, however I found that when it gets super cold late season my gun action gets stiff. Plus, I don't like the process of having to...
