Oil well planned for Van Hook

Assuming you mean string length not true depth since that would be a couple miles below the bakken.

    Snapping turtle

You try and pick up a snapping turtle up here like he did and you will walk away with less fingers then you started with. What he had there isn't what we have up here or even the same species for that matter. - - - Updated - - - I put this carp out on a big nylon stringer at 11 today and this...

    Snapping turtle

Just remember always wash your snappers before you eat it or else you might get e-coli.

    Snapping turtle

MSA That would be true here but the only water that the turtles trade back and forth with is the drainage ditch and the fence on that normally stops the snappers from getting to the lake. The painted turtles can squeeze under it till they get about full sized but snappers are generally blocked...

    Snapping turtle

Well you go dangle your worm in front of it and let us know how that works out for ya! - - - Updated - - - Yeah they frown on that in town. Pluse don't want to kill it if I don't have two....although bow fishing could be a last resort.

    Snapping turtle

The one way I know i can get them effectively without hurting them is to put a fish or two out on a stringer then pull it in slowly when the turtle starts to eat them. Most times the turtle won't let go and you can just net them. Problem is you have to be there watching it for it to work. It's...

    Snapping turtle

I didn't have much fear of them in swimming water since I used to swim all the time in the Sheyenne where there were tons that is till i heard about the stepping on one in the weeds then seeing one hiding in some off our dock. If these were just little guys it wouldn't be so bad but since they...

    Snapping turtle

Well our lake has only had a couple snappers in it the last 30 or so years but this year we either have a number of them or one that moves around fast since I've seen two yesterday in five minutes and a hundred yards apart going opposite direction. Kinda odd seeing them up on top swimming...

    Sick of it...

Well can say that yesterday midday was nice and flat clam and the bass were going nuts leaping clear out of the water catching dragon flys. Made for some great top water action with fish on nearly every cast.:;:howdy

Snow Pack and Lake Sakakawea Levels

That's because the higher releases didn't start till today. The heavy rain band ran the length of the lake so that might add a bit to her but after today the rise will slow to a crawl.

    WTH is this?

Yep giant water bug. They are very common around here and at this time of year they get drawn towards lighted areas. When I worked at bobcat in bismarck it was common to find a few just inside the garage doors at night if we had them part way open to let a breeze in. Some species can get very large.

Because lord knows it's so peaceful at a giant boat ramp! Just the sounds of nature everywhere. ...so long as your idea of nature is made by Mercury, Johnson and Evinrude!

Snow Pack and Lake Sakakawea Levels

Oddly we are catching a fair few more or less trolling ripping raps. Never seen a lure before that would trigger a hit out of carp like the ripping rap does. Would guess that these carp have acquired a taste for wounded and dieing bluegills since the lake is filled with them and the ripping rap...

    Florida shooting.

All military guns are specifically designed with killing people as there primary roll so I would agree that the ar15 falls into that group. But keep in mind so was the 30-06 and many other guns now used by hunters.
