    Tailgates

Fishing rods don't belong in a pickup box. There's nothing good that can happen back there. Put them in the cab if you can.

I've always wanted a Garand myself. Love the dark wood on that one.

2022 Elk Hunting stories and pics

I don't think the old arm-stretch Ahab pose is necessary when you shoot a monster 7. What a beast.

To clean or not to clean

If you know it's going to sit for a while (even a few months), you should always at least run some kind of oil through it. Corrosion can kill a barrel just as easily as over-cleaning damage, depending on how you're storing your guns.

    Aluminum Trailers

I've been looking at trailers recently too, and to me, wood floor is the way to go. If you drop something heavy, or otherwise damage it, it's relatively cheap and easy to fix yourself. Just replace the damaged boards. Not so with metal decking.

2022 Elk Hunting stories and pics

I'll start. My brother and I were in Wyoming for 10 days on a DIY, public land, pack it in and out on your back-type archery hunt. We saw quite a few elk, including some really nice bulls, but initially, they were pretty quiet, and seemed to disappear altogether when 3 idiots riding around on...

    Bleeding Fish

Tip: get a heavy duty scissors / shears and use that, not a filet knife. Much faster and lower risk of stabbing yourself.

    Bleeding Fish

IMO, it's the only way to do it. Get all that blood out of the meat. What mess? Some blood in the water? Cut them about 10 minutes before you pack up and run the pump the entire time.

    Montana dog hunter

Thats no shit either. I grew up in Browns Valley. I know both of those people, and remember hearing about it, and not being completely surprised. Ole Clint was old as shit, couldn't see for shit, and should never have been hunting. The horse lived. Clint has since passed on.

    ND Moose checks out hunter

A few years back, I was trying to fill my ND cow moose tag with my bow, stalking in a corn field. She suddenly walked up and stood next to me, so close that I could have reached out and touched her. I was so surprised that an attack never crossed my mind. I didn't have an arrow nocked, so I...

Yes but that "cover" was mostly giant weeds choking out my trees. I'm focused on the long term here.

    Alpha Glass

People can certainly spend their money however they want, but there's a huge spectrum of cost vs performance when it comes to glass, and IMO, it seems to be nearly linear until you get up above $1000 - $1500. Then the performance part really flattens out. For example, a $400 set of binos are...

    So I bought some land...

I bought my first piece of farm machinery. A 7' rotary mower to mow between my tree rows. The previous owner had neglected it for few years, and the grass and weeds (mostly weeds) were taller than the trees. I got it hacked down (and burnt up the slip clutch doing it, so there's another...

Tokyo Rig --- what size of weight?

Enough to match the depth and lure action you're looking for. I used it a bit this spring with two 1/8 tungsten pointed opposite each other. Not sure it worked any better than a Texas rig, but I caught fish.
