    Honkers

Interesting, I've never heard that ND had a cap other than that 30k one they had for a few years in the early 2000s. I've only been old enough to hunt since the mid-90s though. I know I've seen historical license numbers printed before but did a little searching and couldn't find them.

    Honkers

That (the part I bolded) does seem like a no-brainer, but I guess it's possible it's not the majority. I believe the August dates do not count, so they'd just have to cut a week off of the September part. I suppose it could be a case of balancing landowner (resident geese eating crops) and...

    Honkers

Very good point on the extension/liberalizing of seasons (and limits). And you're never going to make everyone happy on season dates - open the season later and the teal/wood duck guys or guys who want to hunt with little kids would complain or if we get a year where we have a foot of snow in...

Big kitty snared near Mcleod ND

How many had to google where McLeod is lol I know I did. I'll save you the time, it looks to be about 20 miles ESE of Lisbon (and right in the middle of the Sheyenne National Grasslands).

Not trying to argue with you but not quite sure what you mean by signing the proclamation? We never really had a NR cap, well 30,000 for a little while but that's hardly a cap.

Doubt it was just one politician that kept it from happening and I really doubt it will ever happen in this day where the dollar is put above all else.

absolute minimum money to get you through a month

Does that count a mortgage or rent? If so I need you doing my budgeting!

Do you prefer to hunt alone?

I guess I'm like most of you; sometimes I prefer a group, but have no problem going alone. Sometimes I prefer by myself & dog. I don't have to be on anyone else's schedule that way and I don't have to worry that we had enough action to keep the others satisfied (with most of my...

NE NoDak Game and Fish Meeting

I hunted 2C when I was in college in the mid-2000s and deer numbers were through the roof. My grandfather owned a couple hundred acres by the Red and one year it had sugar beets on it and it was like a petting zoo. The fact that jumped out at me was the reduction of doe tags from 9000 to 300...

    Pissed off Farmer

I can see if the guy's struggling to get by, the frustration would be understandable - not necessarily going this far though. Even if you do allow hunting, you're probably not going to allow everyone who comes into your farm yard to hunt amongst your cattle feedlot (often some of the best deer...

Bison players kicked off football team

This is way to simple of a look, but most K-12 districts' costs come out to about 10 grand per kid. That's with class sizes around 20-25 and the kids being there all day and what I would consider more programs (special ed, etc). College tuition is about the same but you're in class 3-4 hours...

    Prediction - First Ice

Coming back to Bismarck this weekend, south Hobart and Cleveland slough had a lot more open water than they did on Wednesday. I'd bet they're half open by now. I'd love to get out but I think I'll wait for a cold snap.

    Prediction - First Ice

I'd be pretty careful in the I-94 corridor and south. Drove from Bismarck to Fargo yesterday; still several acres of open water on Cleveland slough and south Hobart. Next couple days are going to do some damage.

I think the tag issue is legitimate - I know growing up it wouldn't have been very feasible for my dad to take me 3-4 hours to hunt an unfamiliar area just so we could have a doe tag. I think the bigger issues are access and how busy young people are. Even most sports' participation rates...

Who makes good brats in Bismarck area?

I pretty much love any brat, but butcher block is always good. That new place on main (3BE i think) has a good selection of specialty brats as well

Is everyone ready for the blizzard?

How much did everyone get? I'd say there's about 2" on my roof in Bismarck, concrete has a little less.

    Snows

Very true, I call them the Lottery bird...you're going to lose a lot but when you win it's big. Seems you pretty much just have to be in an area they're using and hope they fly by.

    Snows

Tough being at work during these times...heard quite a few flocks of snows go over when I was walking the dog this morning about 6 in Bismarck.

I'm pretty sure that program is run through the USDA

    Snows

Based on prior trips to Saskatchewan and the weather we have(n't) had, I would bet that the bulk of the snows are in between Saskatoon and Regina at this point. Looks like they won't be any colder than ND the next few days but some highs forecasted at or below freezing next week for them so...
