    .243 for Mule Deer?

While both certainly factor into the kill, I think people mention it in these conversations to emphasize that shot placement is much more important than how big the bullet is. If you shoot a deer in the leg with a 338 Lapua, it's not going to die.

    .243 for Mule Deer?

Some people swear by neck shots, but it's not a good bet. Sure, hit the spine, or a major artery / vein, and they're down quick. However, there's a lot of room in there that is not vital. The ribcage is the only sure thing. I've killed scores of deer (whiteys and muleys) and pronghorns with...

    7 mm Rem Mag.

My 7mm is a moody beotch too -- really need to replace the factory barrel -- but I've had decent luck with the 150 TTSX and H1000, which is a temperature stable powder. I know it certainly kills elk -- at least one of them so far. 67.5 is a little slow for a 150, but I only have a 24 in...

    Sub MOA for $199??

Jerkface. :( I'm fairly certain I am a person. Sadly us lefties are "left" out when it comes to most production rifles. That's part of what pushed me to buy a Desert Tech. They're only slightly more expensive than the TC compass :D

    I concur

    Handloading 6.5 creedmoor

Done. Which one is she? Is this still about the Scenar? You're not going to convince me that the Scenar is the perfect killing bullet. I don't give a shit what experience others have had with them. My first-hand experience was poor, so I'm moving on.

    Sub MOA for $199??

I would say this depends on the intended use. As a pure hunting rifle, unless you're shooting prairie dogs, you rarely shoot more than 3 times at any one thing. If you can consistently shoot small three-shot groups from different positions, and especially if the cold bore shot groups well with...

    Handloading 6.5 creedmoor

Good. I don't care about fur. I just like to flatten them. - - - Updated - - - I'll say it's possible that heavier meat / bone would induce better expansion, but with all the excellent bullets out there that are actually designed for hunting, I don't see the point in using "target" bullets...

    Handloading 6.5 creedmoor

Ok, well... I know a guy (me) that recently shot more than one coyote directly through the ribcage, and while they did die, they also ran more than 100 yards before doing so. I have come to expect that on occasion with my 223, but that shit is not acceptable with a 6.5. Upon closer inspection...

    Handloading 6.5 creedmoor

I just started working up the 143 ELDX for my Desert Tech. Looks like ~41.9 gr of H4350 is going to be the sweet spot at about 2825 fps (26in bbl). I started them at about .03 off at 2.197 (to ogive). I’ll run another batch at various seating depths to fine tune it. I realize this...

    Handloading 6.5 creedmoor

^^ If it shoots well, I'd keep it. Hold on to that new barrel offer until after you've run about 3-4,000 rounds through it ;)

Using Dogs to Track Wounded Deer

I know a chocolate lab that has found a deer or two. In some cases you gotta choose ethics over the law.

    Coyotes

Yes, thank you Kurtr. I know there's coyotes in SD. I shot 9 around Pierre just last week. However, there are more in some places than others. Have gun, will travel...

243 or 308 "reduced recoil" for youth

I'm with Petras on this. Why not split the difference and go with a 6.5 Creed? It does everything a 308 will do, only better, and is 'enough gun' for any big game on this continent. You should have no trouble getting factory loads for it, although I'm not sure offhand if anyone does a...

    russell sweats...

Unfortunately, they are not a direct replacement. They are a bit too big in the thigh and smaller than I'd like at the ankle. I have a list of great products that you can't have anymore and the Russell track pants are high on it. ;:;banghead

^^^ In-play makes a very similar pant. https://inplaysportswear.com/usa-made/nylon-warm-ups/ I have a set of those and a set of the original Russells. I find them to be a mostly acceptable replacement, but they are a bit more "poofy". I don't see that they make the matching tops.

Spot and stalk mulies and rattling

I find this topic interesting. I'm usually stalking in October, which is too early for the rut, and I'm guessing it wouldn't work. The bucks are usually in bachelor groups at this time, making them easier to find, but harder to kill.

    password software

I know passwords are a pain, but neither of those are good ideas. Companies get hacked all the time. Now crazy comrade hacker (I always like to picture my hackers as Russian) has a username-password combo that could work in a bunch of other places.

    password software

A far more secure variation of this would be to use an Excel notebook and password-protect the notebook. That way you only have to remember one password to get at all of them. You'd also want to make sure the file is encrypted with bitlocker or somesuch.
