    Big Muddy

G&F will tell you point blank their are decisions that are made based on the science of what the biologists see, and there are decisions/policy made based on public perception.

    NDGNF Survey

LOL, you said "Human Dimensions". - - - Updated - - - I think the "easy" answer to that is, well...easy. If it had been around for a millenia, we should probably have expected it to have somewhat spread over time. The evidence of where it spread out from is pretty obvious. There were...

    Poachers caught

That would be awesome! But I would have to imagine that "course" would take quite the investment in someone's time. And I'm not exactly sure who would take on that cost, etc.

    Poachers caught

One could always argue whether the court's punishment is sufficient, but I'd suggest the public shaming is the greatest punishment of all. I must be mellowing with age...

    Big Muddy

Why would you think the average angler is out catching 4-6 lb fish on average, much less a trophy 28+ inch walleye over a given weekend? I am pretty sure the tourney anglers don't catch, keep, and eat the majority of their fish. Since that is true, they kill far more fish than the weekend...

    Bighorn sheep recovering in ND

We stop pneumonia from domestic sheep wiping the herd out every few years and we could be looking at 20-40 tags a year. Still not a great hunting opportunity when it comes to numbers, but it would be something more of an opportunity for our hunting community. I've always maintained that...

    Rain

I just looked and Bismarck is at 0.49 inches of moisture since January 1st, and less than 0.20 of that came in March and nothing so far in April. It's getting to be more than just a little bit dusty.

    Explain "blowing the bait fish"

One of the things they tend to be good at is finding water supplies and ways to deliver that water to the people and places it is needed the most.

    Minnow trap theif!

sig, I see you are across the river in Mandan. If you ever need a place to throw a trap east of the Missouri for your daughter, I have just the place for her. - - - Updated - - - The beauty of bread as bait is that it catches minnows just fine, and there will be no bread to speak of in the...

    Medora fire

I believe it was in reference to the once numerous burning coal veins. Probably shoulda been named The Smoldering Hills Amphitheater. The musical is something I remember as a kid back in the early 70s, nowadays I make it out there once in a while and still enjoy watching the gals dance and...

    Explain "blowing the bait fish"

Ah hah, now we're getting somewhere. Oceanic waves, or basically waves in the middle of a body of water do in fact, mix very little. But when waves come crashing on a SHORELINE, which is kind of the topic of this thread, waves do indeed mix the water a lot. It beats the hell out of the shore...

    Explain "blowing the bait fish"

One would have to define "surface", but I get your point. Waves don't mix as deep as a layperson would think. - - - Updated - - - Of all the things I've never done, somebody please stop me before I do! Right! We who have shorefished the ocean know the importance of the rip current! They...

    Explain "blowing the bait fish"

KDM is thinking kinda similar as to what I've always thought. The choppy waters do stir things up, so the baitfish may have somewhat higher chances of finding a meal themselves, but they are primarily looking to hangout where they are harder to find themselves. That's in the muddier waters...
