    Pheasant opener 2017

Trust me -- my dog's hate dear season. But I give them scraps during the butcher process. I feel that eases the sting a bit.

    Pheasant opener 2017

I'm just playing the odds...either sit and hope for local ducks that have been shot at for a few weeks to possibly come within range, or walk for pheasants in whatever cover is left, knowing they're probably in the standing crop. OR say to heck with it, fill my bow tag, and save bird kitchen...

    Pheasant opener 2017

I'm going to try and fill a bow tag. Ducks are stale and pheasants are in the standing corn. Good time to kill a whitetail until the bird season really cranks into high gear.

    Specks

I'd shit a brick if I saw that number of specks in my area. After NR opener, I'll just be happy to shoot a limit of spoonies this weekend.

Anybody up for a Goose Shot?

Good old Pike. What a crappy frat. Figures they're relegated to shooting cheap booze off a dead honker, while normal guys are guzzling the finer spirits betwixt the full bossom of a frisky co-ed. Ya know, like normal straight college males are apt to do.

Roost Buster - The Non Resident Way

One of the greatest joys I've come to find are those little, overlooked water spots. The "teacups" as the ranchers call them out west. They barely show up on Satellite images, and rarely catch the eyes of fellow waterfowlers scouting the evening before. But you know them when you find them...

Roost Buster - The Non Resident Way

I have to confess that I'd much prefer to hunt water over fields. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like both. But there is a certain satisfaction from the "bang ... ker-SPLOOSH" of a fowl hitting water that you just don't get from the "bang ... thump" of a field. Plus it's WAY more fun watching...

Roost Buster - The Non Resident Way

You come around some areas with a decoy trailer boasting Roost Busting and that's a green light for certain locals to bust out the valve stem removal tool...

Did all the ducks in MN leave???

I'm not sure about just NRs. After resident opener, I'm scratching my head about all the hunters, period. Seems like suddenly everyone hunts ducks. Is it because nobody is getting deer tags??

Las Vegas Jason Aldean concert crazy with a machine gun

Has anyone heard the gun firing? I believe it was a bump-fire stock. Full auto is a bit more consistent. These shots were not. Plus, even with Nevada's lax gun rules, I think it still takes some serious paperwork to get a full-auto weapon legally. Then again, who's to say it was legally...

    Cool weather dinner's~

I'm a big fan of this stew I make every year. It's super simple, and I usually make it in the morning before work: Cube up 1-2 pounds of venison (I usually label "stew meat" for just this situation), dice potatoes, carrots and celery, then add in some minced garlic and onion. In a skillet...

    Duck Gizzard

I cooked up a pile a few years ago. Cleaned them really good. Fried them quick in butter and seasoning. There were OK. Weird texture. Flavor was fine. If you're a gizzard fan, I'm sure you'd find them palatable.

    Dog blind for field hunting?

^^^ Might I suggest a stake-out with a short chain? Maybe a couple feet long, tops? Pound that sucker in close to your blind, then hook it to the dog. Will keep it from bolting at the shot, and you can quick unclip him after the action is over so he can make the retrieve. I did this for my...

    Dog blind for field hunting?

I used to use a dog blind. Don't any more. I think a dog trained to stay "kenneled" until release works very well for dog blind situations. Keeps them from breaking and also concealment. But for whatever reason the last few years I haven't been using them and have noticed zero issue with...

    Ruffed Grouse, Dog and Wolves

Nobody gets in trouble if the body is never found. There are enough hungry critters in the woods that a carcass wouldn't last that long... Biggest issue would be just keeping your own yap shut. But folks have a problem with that.

    Duck Opener Redemption

If it wasn't for a $300 remote I would NOT have been that motivated!! Honestly, shooting birds was a bonus. I'm just glad we got that damn thing back. So thank YOU for graciously shooting the south end. By the sound of it, you guys had plenty of action. That spots always pretty decent even if...

Just birds from here on out

That's always my goal: Fill deer tags quickly as possible so there is more time to shoot birds! Congrats!!

^^^^ Don't hold your breath! They don't REALLY wan't change. They just want 15 more minutes of fame than they already have. Gotta feed the ego.

Thanks for checking, V! I hope they are nixed. Makes discretely viewing NDA whilst at work (during breaks, of course) a bit difficult when you forget the volume is on an suddenly starts blaring whatever is on the pop-up!
