      TTSX vs M70 .308

Any advice for getting a Model 70 .308 to shoot 150gr TTSXs? I've tried different COAL, different powders. The rifle shoots really good with 150 ballistic tips and SSTs, with with pretty much any powder. Just can't get it to group well with a Barnes. Would it be worth a try with 130gr?

Shouldn't be short on twist and typically Barnes will tolerate a mile of jump to the lands. That said, there's no reason not to try 130's for deer. My buddy's wife shot her ND Moose w/308/130 TSX's punching both shoulders, both shots were complete pass-throughs. Plenty of power for deer.

That's kind of where I was going with the Clay, I started at 50 off and worked my way back a ways, then went to 20 off. I tried 4 powders (Don't have the log, but I'm pretty sure they were 748, varget, rl15, and I think 335). I've never never had an issue getting a TTSX to shoot "hunting" accurate, especially when others shoot really good. Hell, Remington green box will shoot a group that i can cover with a 50 cent piece.

I don’t shoot Barnes because they don’t shoot to my standard. Shoot what shoots and don’t let big marketing tell you otherwise, nuff said.

I started shooting X bullets the year they came out. I stuck with them for seven or eight years. I never did have an animal go flop at the shot as some have expdrienced. Not even with a 150 gr 30 cal at 3200 fps and 100 yards. They all died, but many run 200 even 300 yards. The only bullet recovered was a buck at 400 yards shot straight on and the bullet was found under the skin of the hind quarter. I realized that even though I was shooting 3400 ft pounds of energy only half or less were ecpended in the deer and the rest was on a hillside somrwhere beyond. Since then I have shot a lot of bullets and for long range settled on Berger VLDs.
I get a kick out of these outdoor writers who have their picture with their trophy and talk about bullet failure.
      Dead animal = bullet success
Shot but live animal runs off = hunter failure

130gr with TAC has been an absolute killer for me and pushes it 3200+fps. 110gr has also shot extremely well, but don't have enough hunts yet to make me feel great (or bad) about it yet.

The guy I hunt with had rotator cuff surgery one year and to avoid recoil he loaded the 110 gr at 3200fps in his 300 Win mag. That was the fastest I have ever seen an X bullet take a deer down. Watching through the spotting scope it looked like his chest expanded 25%. He took off. but only made it 20 yards. The worst I have seen is the 180 gr factory PMC. That resulted in the only deer I have seen lost with an X bullet.

I have a 130 TTSX round with Varget that has shot in every single 308 that's tried it(3000ish to 3200ish). A true MOA or better out to 300. I've shot it much further in my FN and it opens up a bit after 500-600. It's a killer!!
