I mean really solid. I want to be able to take the ice castle out on the big lakes. Last year I was fishing the Friday before thanksgiving but temps didn't stay low enough to build much ice.

The best thing about the weather is that it's the one topic where the arm chair professional is way more accurate than the educated and trained weatherman. Unless of course the weatherman actually has an office with a window he can see out of. Then it's a tie.

I agree that early and late ice are probably better but I have had some pretty great fishing in January and February too. My best lake winnipeg trip so far was in the middle of January and cold as titty sprinkles.

The almanac has colder-than-average in November & December, but less-than-average snow for 2017. Mike is gonna have to keep his snowblower parked another year! lol Mike, I'll give ya $100 for the snowblower....

I'm glad the almanac didn't say colder-than-average January. Hell, that's already too cold as it is.....

Whereas, a buddy of mine is a die hard ice fisherman and whereas, he is also a diehard 49er fan, the winter will be a severe one so the nimwit can get out there OFF THE GRID somewhere out of earshot of a 49ers game by mid October.

All bullshit aside the weatherman (kevin lawrence) from KFYR 2 months ago called for the opposite of last winter. One an al nino and the other one a la nina or however you spell it. If I'd be right 50% of the time at my job i'd have lasted a day or two before getting fired. But i'm hoping he's right
