Partitions cost more because nosler prices them that way, just like all of their bullets.

Nosler partitions, what is this, 1948? Want to talk about my dead grandpa while we are at it?

1948 called, it wants its partitions back.

As much as I don't like VLD's, I have no problem at all using A-max's and though I haven't loaded any yet, wouldn't have any confidence issue using an ELD-X either.

The simple truth is that with the exception of Remington and Sako, no other factory chambered long action .473 bolt-face rifles leave a person with enough latitude to get a VLD INTO the lands. Now you MIGHT get a VLD to shoot well off the lands @ mag length, but the ability to ensure you get there is the only way to be fairly sure they're going to work.

There isn't enough difference in BC in like-weight commonly available component bullets offered in .277 shot through factory 1:10 twist barrels that will for sure work @ mag length that any of them give a true ballistic advantage over their peers. Damned few can shoot well enough from field positions past even 150yds, let alone 400+ with a hunting rifle to say that BC makes or breaks them.

I shot my biggest deer with a 140gn .277 TSX @ 75yds.

From what I have seen the 143 eldx is like the 140 amax and a killer in the creedmoor. I tried bergers in my .308 and did not have enough mag room to get them to shoot so if any one wants like 50 30 cal 155 bergers I think I still have them in my room. For some reason I have a feeling a big 30 might be in the future I don't know why I think I need one though.

I did load some 130 ttsx for a buddy he killed a bunch of deer with longest just over 600. I have been tempted to try them in the creedmoor but the Hornady are just so easy to get to shoot

In one 6.5 Creedmoor I shoot Hornady ELD-X and in the Savage with a Criterion barrel I shoot Berger VLDs. I shoot 212 gr VLDs in my 300 mag. The reason for shooting them isn't because they are a tough bullet, but because they open at low velocities at long range. The reason for heavy is not only better bc, but that you can loose half the weight and still penetrate.

As far as magazine length I have an extreme long throat in the Criterion barrel, set my VLDs .004 off the lands and have plenty magazine length in the Savage action. No problem with 150s in my Winchester in 270, or 185s in my 308 Remington 700, or 308 Ruger American. Prefer the 200 gr ELD-X in the short 18 inch barrel.

I'd hunt with partitions a hundred times before I Berger VLD'd even once.
I have killed a dozen deer with VLD's. I'm curious, what made you decide to not try them?
I should make it clear that I like Partitions. Shot them many years ago. Still would use them for some things today. If they had a better ballistic coefficient they would be good for long range. When my son used the 100 gr in a 243 years ago I noticed that at short range the front end was very explosive and would open at long range if it had the capability of retaining the energy I want.
