I have a bps that spent the night in a gun case while wet, little rust spots all over that damn gun. It still shoots fine, just not very pretty

Neither do I so long as a person is using approved cleaning brushes, etc. Metallurgy is a funny thing, tough to scratch steel or stainless steel when using brass brushes.

Constant scrubing with harsh chemicals and most dont even have a bore guide and then if they do it is a generic one at best.

So you would agree bbl break in is a myth as how does soft copper smooth out stainless or chrome molly.

These are just things the guys who makes the bbls and people who shoot for a living believe in so they could be totally out in left field but i will ride it out with them.

More damage is done to chambers and throats from over cleaning than shooting. If it is shooting good no need to clean. Common sense comes into play if it is raining or you had to use it as a paddle to get to shore cleaning is good. I have gone 600 plus before i have cleaned my bartlein and still really didnt need it i just did.

I agree totally. I have heard this same line from my father and some of his friends. More barrels have been screwed up by cleaning than by shooting. I have years where I shoot over 15 thousand rounds and most of my rifles get cleaned when then start loosing accuracy most of the time 500 -600 rounds. I have some barrels that have well over 12,000 rounds through and are still shooting 1/2 groups. I think barrel cleaning is a waste of ammo too. I have a Ruger M77 22-250 varmit that have seen close to 15,000 rounds and is still shooting 3/8 of an inch with a throat that vanished years ago. If I clean that gun it takes at least 25 rounds to fill the spider cracks with copper so it will shoot again!
