Sawyer,
Since I moved from Bis to Minot over 5 years ago, 90+% of my hunting and fishing gear is bought online now too. Sucks....I miss Dakota Tackle and Runnings. I only shop at scheels when they're having sales, and usually I can still find the stuff online cheaper.

Something about this seems fishy. To inform the employees before announcing it to the public could be considered insider trading. The employees could easily tell everybody they know to sell theIr shares before the public would have a clue.

Scheels doubles the factory warranty when you use their charge card.

Your Minot Scheels store SUCKS! Has to be the worst stocked fishing one in the state.

I think Cabela's is a privately held company, Not sure about Bass Pro.

Cabelas ticker symbol is CAB and they've been public for ~6-8yrs.

I still think it's a rumor, could be that Bass Pro is only buying the Billings store and not all of Cabela's.

Selling off a few parasitic locations that BPS has an interest in would sorta make sense other than if stores are canabalizing each other, I can't imagine why you'd sell locations to a competitor.

I don't know if I have a horse in this race as I rarely shop at either store.

Not much here - I do buy from Cabelas if I find a deal on stuff. I do have their Visa card and the points bought me a fair amount of gear. That's where my interest is at.

I haven't used the card in a while and used up almost all my points so I am just following along to see what comes out of it - if anything.

This is not really an issue for me. More and More I find myself going to Fleet Farm for my every day outdoor kind of stuff. For the big items, I rely much of the time on a few close friends and the NDA network for ideas, suggestions, and sources as most times I only have a vague vision of what I want to do and go from there. There IS no substitute for real life experience.

Lol my best low interest rate and highest credit limit comes from Cabelas. One thing that bothers me about Cabelas though is their products are getting cheaper made quality. Has anyone when buying a new rod, did the guide test. To make sure the guides are set on the spline of the rod? I have noticed that fishing rods companies are not setting guides right. St Croix, Fenwick, or Cabelas rods are hit an miss.

Most store bought rods, even some advertised as spined, aren't spined. Guides are usually placed on the straightest edge of the blank. Look at a blank and you'll see they have some zigs and zags.
