"Greedology" has taken over the pricing on everything: groceries, proteins, fresh fruits & vegtables, everyday needs. Joe Blow raises prices cuz his cost go up, Joe's neighbor raises his prices cuz Joe did, and the story goes on & on! Then there's the oil-gasoline-natural gas prices.....OPEC and the big oil companies have way too much control over these prices. Then there is the medicals: doctors, nurses, clinics, hospitals, pharms, and of course the medical insurance rip=off artists...OMG!!
There is a terrible staircase rising up to uncontrolled prices with no help in sight for the future.
I don't have a good answer, but believe we need to boycott purchases, voice-out to our government, don't patronize rip-off artists, and demand fair pricing.
It's going to take all of us to make a difference!

I belive it's to late. politics have take over common sense ,everything could triple with shortages that lead to ration books like in the 40s and people will still double down that that's what they voted for.

So far this spring, I've asked 4 small farm beef producer friends if they will have slaughter cattle for sale this fall/winter/ '27 spring. All of them stated that they are keeping only what their close family members need and are selling the rest with the high prices for live cattle. I realize that 4 is a ridiculously small sample size, but if this is a more common stance across the greater small cattle producer population, finding local beef sources might be problematic if someone in the NDA peanut gallery is leaning that way. Current price for a live 1200 lb steer would be over 3k at 2.53 lb on the hoof. 600-700 lb carcass weights and around 450 lbs in the freezer after a 1000 dollar slaughter bill. Bringing the grand total to over 4k for 450 lbs of meat or around 9 bucks a pound for in the freezer beer. OI Vay!! That a zinger in the wallet area. I don't like any of this. NO, not at all.

Makes a guy wonder what's in that 5 dollar a lb ground beef tube when real beef is 9 bucks a lb?

You can't buy a good Saddle horse for under 10k anymore. I was watching some online Horse and Mules sales. It's crazy what there getting. 40K to 80K for Mules.

I'm waiting for a 250lb bear to walk into the yard.
Tipping over a 400.00$ grill is considered destruction of property.

We haven't eaten beef in at least 6 months. Wild game, chicken and pork on regular rotation.

I would like to treat the family to some T-bones again -- but $50 out the door just for mediocre steak that I cook myself. I dunno. Kinda puts a bad taste in your mouth before a fella even takes a bite.

$9 beef, across the board, is affordable. Everyone forgets that that's $9/# prime cuts as well. $9/# ribeye, $9/# porterhouse etc. It's not 1992 anymore, where burger costs sub $2.

People don't blink an eye at spending $5 on a bag of chips, or $9 on a coffee. But GOD FORBID they spend $9-$10/# buying a beef (protein) from a local producer.

Your nice $5 tube ground beef comes from critters taken to Long Prairie,MN. That's your johne's disease special.

Maybe some folks don't blink, but not everyone. That's priced out of affordability for our family. We still buy protein, but not beef.

That's with every purchase, too. We quit going to Hornbacher's for a majority of our groceries, and instead go to Aldi because of the noticeable savings.

We don't go out to eat. Rarely have fast food. The last coffee I bought was from a gas station -- and it was definitely not $9.

I get it -- I may be the exception and not the norm. But as inflation continues to explode along with the price of gas, well, compromises have to be made.

Beef is just not on the menu any more.

The big problem is as beef goes way up in price, it takes pork, chicken, turkey, and other proteins up in price also. A few years ago, you could hardly sell a butcher pig, now: look out!

We don't eat much for beef anymore. Wild game and pork. bought my own boar and a couple sows this year. I can just butcher as i need then. Wouldn't mind doing about a 75lb live weight pig on the grill too and maybe a couple 125-150lbers on a spit every so often. raising my own meat is kind of nice to know how they are treated and fed. Might butcher a couple goats a year if they taste ok.
