i guess it comes up fast but I do not feel it most of the time, I believe I got countless years left, and yea but it sure as hell is hard to accept and maybe understand that it has come, I still have plans for my next job in life, I still shoot darts and drink my fair share but softball has long gone, I still look and enjoy the look with thoughts kept to myself, I still have dreams, plans and things to get done, blood pressure today was 106 by 66, certain things I can still do with the best of them ( maybe),

I'm 37 and got called old today by a 20 years old punk I guess it is all relative to what we look at as old haha

today when I bought some shells the lady ask if I was 18.
the wife she looks as good as when she was 16. Same size.
me I might of Gain some pounds and loss some hair but am still the same height.
tomorrow we will hit the bar for the Youngstown game with two playoff game after.
i am sure a lot of youth will come and go during that time but us senior will carry on. Db

I have a cross bow permit and so does my wife. Our crossbow shoots very well a lot like a rifle.

not All make it to that age with all the body parts intact and working
not all make it to the age with the same lady when the first date was as a teen.

The introduction of crossbows into archery season will lead to the elimination of the OTC statewide archery tags. There is already a law in place to allow those who can't bowhunt the opportunity to hunt during the same season with a crossbow. I'm all for allowing as many people to enjoy hunting as possible but we have to draw the line somewhere. We have enjoyed some pretty liberal archery seasons in ND and I feel this bill will be a step to end that tradition.
Fritz, say what you want about Bill, but he has been a great advocate for bowhunting in ND. He may be "against everything" but that is only because things have been pretty good for bowhunters in ND and he doesn't want that to change.

I agree with uncle jimbo. Why put a blanket age on there? If u are too old to pull a bow get a permit.

Archery in my mind is suppose to be primitive. With all the technology these days it's far from primitive.

Same with inline muzzleloaders with scopes shooting 200 yards easily. I guess that's the world we live in these days

If it is primitive they should not allow use of compounds. It should be all self bows with self made arrows with Flint tips

I'm not against most laws that give more people a chance to hunt and didnt read through any other posts yet, but why do they just pull a number out of their ass and say 65? So a crippled up 64 yr old has to live another year to get a chance to hunt? Not a terrible system we have now with applying for a permit. Gotta either keep it as is or have it wide open. Kinda like having to run to winnipeg when we were 18 for titties and beer.

I am for crossbow use regardless of age. As stated before the same rules apply with bowhunters. You have to get close enough for a clean shot. Look to other states that have allowed hunting with crossbows. I would be surprised if you could correlate a difference in the number of deer taken before and after the rules change.

The more I think about it, the less I like this idea. We already have a system in place that would allow someone unable to use vertical archery equipment, regardless of age, to get a permit for a crossbow that's really pretty simple. Get a doc to write you a note detailing your condition that prevents you from using vertical equipment, fill out the form from the G&F, and send it in. Simple!! I'm all for getting as many folks out into the field as possible, but there REALLY isn't a need for this bill. This bill would essentially give people too lazy or unwilling for some reason, to use the system we have right now, a pass. If archery hunting isn't important enough to you to take the few simple steps to get a crossbow permit, I'm NOT sure having those types of folks in the field would be a benefit. Unmotivated hunters oftentimes take short cuts or don't follow rules very well and could strain relations within the sporting community. However, when these things come up, I tend to think it's not about helping people out, it's about money unfortunately. In that light, it kind of looks to me that with the reduction in rifle tags and the corresponding reduction in tax revenue for ammo and other gear sales, the money flow might be a bit slimmer and they are looking for a way to boost it. Increasing participation in OTC archery hunting by both R and NR's is an easy, unassuming way to quietly boost revenues. Maybe not, but I can see why there is push back from some folks.

U still have to pull a compound back. A crossbow is locked and loaded. U have a lot less chance of getting busted without having to pull a bow back

i would be fine with just recurves btw

I'm kind of for it but yet at times I feel that if they can't pull a bow back anymore due to age, can't they go to a doctor and have the form filled out to get a crossbow permit.

I'd rather they just allow crossbows in the archery season for anyone regardless of age.

I would like to see it pass. Many of the older generation is very proud and doesn't want to go to the doctor so they can get a permit. My father is a perfect example his shoulders are beat up so he can no longer shoot a conventional bow but probably shoot a crossbow if there were no strings attached. He basically quit bowhunting after a bad car accident in his 50's. I have tried to have him go to the doctor to get a permit but he refuses. It tough for old vet to lose his pride and go get the permit.

One year I messed up my shoulder so bad I couldn't pull a bow at all. I has one good arm and called the G&F to see if I could get a permit for a speer? No go, they suggested a crossbow, but I didn't have the cash for that.
