I am posting this for a friend and hoping to get the help of our community. I know this is a long shot, but my friend had his garage broken into yesterday. They stole his Elite 35 Bow, with arrows, case quiver, release sight etc. Also took his Leupold range finder and his Strikemaster Lazer Mag 8" auger. He has contacted the pawn shops and we will keep our eye on Bisman, but if anyone hears of someone selling items like this, I would appreciate a PM.

Again, I know this is a long shot, but figured I would share.

I know of another person that got their garage broken into in south Bismarck last week. What area of town did this happen in?

How did they gain entry? Wondering if I need to take further measures.

North part of Bismarck. East side of State Street behind O'Reily Auto parts. I don't know all the details, but sounds like they pried the garage door open.

What the heck, i used to live right in that area. I really need to get a deadbolt on my garage entry door!

I would also say get blinds on your garage windows and don't put garage doors on with windows. If thieves cant see in, they most likely aren't going to take the chance to break in. If they can see all your goodies that gives them incentive.

I've actually been thinking a lot about this lately. Having just moved in to a new house, I have a lot of things to do yet. Both garage entry doors have deadbolts, but I still need to put blinds on the windows.

Does anyone know if they make a "film" that can be applied to the garage door windows to prevent anyone from seeing clearly inside? What other precautions can I take?

What complete losers. They deserve to have their knees broken. On top of blinds and dead bolds I would say have several motion sensor lights as well. Damn this pisses me off to hear

First thing I would do is find a way to reinforce that deadbolt. It's the cheapest and easiest thing to do. Check out this video. https://www.todayshomeowner.com/video/how-to-reinforce-a-deadbolt-lock-on-your-home/.

Sure sounds fishy, why would someone break into a locked structure and zero in on bow hunting equipment? Oh,unless they knew the home owner is an advid hunter with high end equipment,I suspect the perp is known to the victim,if not it was a lucky guess to open pandoras box and take off with the goodies, sounds like the bow hunting equipment was the target, the auger was just a bonus.

Probably someone he knows or a buddy to a friend that knew what he had in there.

My guess is somebody has seen the garage open and knew what was in there. Either way, I agree with LBrandt and snow that the perp knew what was in there. Wouldn't make sense to risk breaking into a garage unless you knew something of value was in there.

You can make a bar whether wood or metal that goes under your door knob and then angles to the floor. Wedge it tight and that will keep them out. Also can put some brackets on both sides of the inside door on the wall and put a 2 x 6 across the door on the inside.

I know my neighbors fairly well too, we tend to look out for each other.

Leaving the garage doors up is a bad idea if you have valuables in there, also motion lights, maybe your dog in the garage, and an alarm of some sorts that goes off when a walk through door is opened.
