I definitely would not get motion lights unless you have cameras set up too. Cameras are pretty sweet now you can get them to work with your WiFi service on motion detection.

I installed LED light bulbs in all of our outdoor light fixtures. We leave them on 24/7. They cost almost nothing to leave on.

Everyone should have @ least one NEST camera in the garage. When the camera gets activated your cell phone gets a message and you can view the live time feed you can talk through it and they hide very well. It hasn't saved my butt yet ;but there are a lot of people who have had break ins and just talking through the camera has saved them. Nest has some good You tube videos to watch.

F'n Thieves!! I been very fortunate not to have anything taken from my property in the 15 yrs I have been on it, but I'm always being aware of it. LEO just recently busted a guy here that stole a WHOLE LOT of shit from alot of people, found it:

All I can say is that M'fo better be preparing for some serious jail time with bubba. People steal to keep their drug habit going, stupid..get off the shit simple as that.

Same with the girl that embezzled a boat load of money from an crane company, she's looking at serious jail time, in fact, I know who she is and I don't feel sorry for her. She even admitted of stealing money from the company once they started investigating her. And the thing about people who embezzle, once you get out of jail, you'll never, ever work in a company that handles cash flow and you''ll never, ever do accounting bookwork again for the rest of your life, basically stuck dong shit work for the rest of your life like cleaning toilets or being a wal mart greeter

Just curious why motion lights without cameras are a bad idea? Seems to me that thieves tend to look for areas with inadequate lighting in an attempt to remain unseen. I figured motion lights would serve as a deterrent once activated, especially in residential areas when a neighbor could possibly see something out of the ordinary.

The Wi-Fi cameras also seem like a good choice, but I'm still not completely sold on them. Even secure Wi-Fi connections can be hacked, and I certainly wouldn't want would be thieves watching me with my own cameras.

The sight of someone walking around with just a flash light in a pitch black night would be a little more suspicious then someone tripping a motion lights. Especially if you have a dog or have neighbors dogs roaming at night. After awhile people become less aware of a light being turned on by someone's dog.

I often ignore motion lights for that very reason, but would you just stand there if you tripped a motion light in someone's yard if you weren't supposed to be there? I certainly wouldn't, especially in a residential area. People may not pay attention to motion lights, but if they happen to see someone it may raise some red flags.

So again, why is it a bad idea to have motion lights without cameras? Is having motion lights a bad thing? The cameras won't serve as a deterrent unless the individual sees them.

Love the motion lights. The bunny rabbits in the hood love watching me get up every hour to see why the light is on. Little bastards.

One thing about motion detector lights is that they come on from anything it detects in the range, I kid you not, even when you got that damn things set on the lowest min setting of detection, the wind sets mine off pretty easy. My bedroom window are right by my front door, when I first installed detection lights I was up every picking time it went off and look out the window, only to find out the wind set it off. This particular light is about going in the garbage, right now its not working like it should, time to put up a new one I guess.

I use motion/heat lights on my outdoor buildings, the better high end lights you can set the detection size and range,so if ya have a rabbit, dog or cat come thru this size will not trip the light, further they led light is (2) stage beam, meaning it has a timer switch,I keep mine on from dust to dawn, then she shuts the light off@ daybreak, the motion light has a low beam on during this time period, like a night light, when something of large size triggers the motion detector she goes on "Hi Beam" or a major heat source will trip it as well.

Oh,and you set the timer for how long you want the high beam on for,I keep mine set for 10minutes which is enough time for me to take notice late at night when I'm roaming around or watching the tube.

Our house alarm also has sensors on the walkin doors on the house and in the garage. If the door is opened the sensors trip the alarm. Stopped someone who got one of the walkin doors opened when we were moving to town. That darn alarm sound is LOUD!

Thats good humor thanks, do what you want I see people leave their outside lights on all the time but of course I us ally don't walk through people's yards to see if they do. Like others have said 98 percent of the time the ones who steal from you us ally know you. Get a sign that says beware of dog and deadbolt

Remember the door trim to your house and most garage entry doors is only 3/4 " thick. you have 3/4 inch screws holding the plate that the deadbolt goes into. Most 3 year olds can kick that door in. Pull the 3/4" screws out and put 3 " screws into that plate where the deadbolt goes into. That runs the screws into the 3/4" trim and into the studs trimmed around the door frame.

Also not mentioned here is the ability of the thief to push the top of your garage door open far enough to reach your emergency pull cord with a wire and open your garage door that way. Plenty of info if you google how to stop them from doing that.

Unless you're an enrolled member of a tribe. Then, you get out of jail and someone puts you right back in handling cash.
