Boat Trailer Bearings

I have switched my oil baths over to lucus hub oil and hooing that solves the issue. Seems I get water in them. Had it happen twice in 8 years so I can't really complain just check a few times a year. The Lucus oil is supposed to have something in it to help the seals.

The rubber grommet on the dust cap helps prevent pressure buildup that will blow a seal.

Thats the way they are made . Nothing wrong with the seals. Its has a hole for the old grease to go out, not around the rear seal. I think they are called surelube bearings

if there’s a way for grease to go out there is a way for water to go in. When that grease gets hot it gets pretty thin. And could easily migrate out just going down the road. Sounds like some wet dream of an idea lol.

They must be some great bearings then! Going on 19 years and who knows how many miles with the same bearings. Just pump in new grease every fall. Maybe some kind of check valve?

Shorelander trailor bought new in 2008 with oil bath bearings. Looks the same now as when I bought the boat. Maybe 5000 miles on trailor.
