But do they taste better than carp? I shot a bunch of buffalo with my bow when I was a kid, a few over 30lbs.
I’m not sure how they taste but I’ve seen people fry up buffalo ribs down south, the thing I like about them is how old they can be

Back in the 80s when we commercial fished them out of Sak and ordinary carp out of Audubon, carp were about $0.10 a pound on the fin, Buffalo were around $2 a pound gutted.

So, yeah...based on demand and price they must be. Both are far too oily for my taste.

That being said, I read an article from NDGF a number of years ago that talked at great length about how they were a very long-lived native species in decline. I'd have to imagine NDGF has been contemplating limits on them for several years at this point.
Yeah I feel it’s wrong to be able to kill unlimited fish that can be over 100 years old

Buffalo are "carp". They're the largest members of the minnow family.

My boy caught a 15lb in the Tailrace on a spoon. Still pissed I didn't have a camera. My flip phone didn't have the feature: After salmon in early Sept.

Yeah I saw some guys fishing for them with curly tails, turns out they get super aggressive during the spawn and attack lures. 15 lbs is a big one

BEST recipi for carp. 1st do not clean it don't even gut it. Next get some river mud a lot. That gumbo sticky stuff like clay and mix it so its so it's easy to pack. Pack the carp in it thick then wrap it up in tinfoil. Bake in a fire or oven 1 hour per pound of carp. Let it cool then separate the mud and carp. Throw away the carp then EAT THE MUD

I love Buffalo but hate carp, every carp became catfish bait or a meal for some animal

Had a little Asian feller at my work years back pretty sure he was nv I couldn't pronounce his name so his nick name was "harry" couple days/week in spring I shot carp, buffalo, suckers, gar b4 work early morning at our local city damn I used a 5ga heavy duty wire as my stringer.... after a couple hours shooting off to work, usually I dropped my fish @ little siagon near my work place but often times I stopped at my work place and always asked Harry if he wanted my fish,he only took buffalo fish when I had them,no carp or suckers Asian restaurant took em all fyi pass on fish soup like POI ar/in Asian restaurants.... trust me.

I’m not sure how they taste but I’ve seen people fry up buffalo ribs down south, the thing I like about them is how old they can be
Years back I shot a monster grass carp on a local lake late spring, thought I had the state record, 81lbs,52"L 34" girth called our dnr co and a state biologists came to verify .... no state record not caught hook n line, biologists pulled a scale ( silver dollar size) to age this pig, days later estimate 100yrs old.

81 pounds is crazy, was that in North Dakota? I thought grass carp entered the state rather recently.

Freakn' Dale Jr. combo filled with 6/20 braid...still have the rod. The reel "burned up" and the drag totally locked when I tried "Reel and Line Magic" on it: Wish I hadn't trashed the reel...

Mixed blessing as this got him on open face and baitcaster when he was 8.

The "new" round braid works awesome on spincasting (closed face) reels. No shit. I had some extra and couldn't believe how good it worked in the back yard. Caveat: It's like a blower on your weedeater.

I did 6/20: From "there"; it's not the rod/reel; it's teaching about the drag/rod action/angle.

Unburdened by what has been; dip the rod while maintaining tension. There's more shit my son learned from MLF: Fishing and learning are synonymous.

That is all.
