I'm in the market for my next graph. Been about 5-6 years. I also need a better camera/display. There are many interesting things a camera can tell you in clearer waters.

I am thinking a Gen3 touch unit with external video input. Anybody do this? Camera type? Pros/cons? Is daylight visibility as good as I imagine?

Please discuss. Thanks!

haha. Well I guess I'll help. I think aquavu probably has the best cameras. I don't know if they all have the same video out connection so the best camera that is compatible would be my choice. Any new lowrance graph is nice so you can't miss there unless you go smaller than you should.

I have a Gen 2 8 and a Gen 1 7 and three cameras now. Two aquas and a newer marcum color that sucks balls.

looking to upgrade so looking for first hand experience from camera-graph combo users

I looked into a year ago. Seemed like a good option to take advantage of the screens and units a guy already owned.
However I didn't have a solid option for ice season. The wifi and cell phone hook up didn't provide real time action, which I wanted for ice fishing. So I still needed to buy a monitor for ice. In the end, it would not have saved any $$. So I got a complete Marcum Package.

I would seriously look at the new unit Aqua-View has coming out.

I have never bought a camera. It seems everytime someone has one they fiddle with it constantly and miss fish.

Doc Sonar has some videos where he makes good points on use of a camera. I think if you fished enough clear water lakes it would be worth it. Best use would be determining if you are marking suckers or walleyes. That or find out what type of baitfish you are marking. I have an old MAV(motorized aqua view) that I can pop on my tiller boat. I've used it a little, but most places I fish don't have the clarity to make it too great of a tool.

I have numerous limits of quality panfish and eyes that are 100% attributable to camera scouting

I have also avoided fishing suckers (that I thought were eyes) on numerous occasions - suckers and eyes hang out together on some MN lakes

update....

the camera
2016-09-23 20.07.27.jpg

tiller instrument cubby. The camera is stored in the compartment that it is sitting on. When I need to use it it is less than a minute to be viewing

I identified, bought, and installed jacks so hookup would be NON HASSLE. I skipped a jack to power the LEDs - not useful for underwater boat cameras IMO.

works nicely

works fine but if I buy another I might try the "two weight model" as this one shimmies at certain speeds - I am also considering adding an exaggerated tail to see if that helps

Also - I had to reboot the Lowrance when I powered down the camera while it was displaying it - when I powered camera back up the screen stayed black on the Lowrance - hope that isn't a routine incident
