I think out of respect to non-residents they should be allowed to bow hunt a week earlier than residents.

I have often wondered if NR bowhunters realize that their otc tag isn’t applicable for mule deer... or maybe they don’t care? Claim ignorance? It seems like there was a shitload out over the two weeks I was out last fall

Deer Bow - Valid for any deer except antlerless mule deer in deer gun hunting unit 4A. Resident bow licenses are not limited. Nonresident bow licenses valid for any white-tailed deer statewide are not limited. Nonresident any-deer bow licenses are limited to 502, a number equal to 15 percent of the total mule deer gun season licenses made available during the previous year

  • Nonresident Deer Bow
    • 382 - Number of licenses issued
    • 746 - Number of applicants for a nonresident deer bow license
2017 Deer License Statistics

One thing I find a little comical about all this is the people saying it seems like there's so many more out there compared to before! Well shit Billy tags are up 300% in 4 years...... im surely not saying that that's the main reason but I'mmmmmmm ah thinking it!:;:stirthepot

One step closer to the end.
From SDMF "We don't need to change NR season dates, we need to require NR's to come take a weekend course in hunter etiquette and pass an archery proficiency test."

That is a nonresiexist comment. (Will that be in Webster's next year ???)

Are you liberal too?
::: I thought all NoDak Angler website members were conservative. :::

I think ALL hunters should take similar courses.

Or take lessons from Kapernick. :;:

They could take the weekend course during their 1st week of hunting so it wouldn't involve any extra travel for them. : )

You'd be bumping up against archery opener in MN/WI which is usually ~ 9/15ish as well as negating the long Labor Day weekend. You'd also effectively eliminate the opportunity for those excluded from the 1st 2 weeks in ND to shoot a deer in velvet.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but there are a couple of things that might make NR archery hunters decisions much more difficult.

Good Points SDMF. These I can see as being of, or having tangible benefit to resident hunters. Mostly the Labor Day Weekend. While I still don't think moving the NR hunting season back two weeks will change hunter numbers very much, I could understand the move in the interests of assisting resident hunters. I may not vote for it yet, but I will admit I've had to shift my thought process.

I can't believe 50% of guys think we should move the season back 2 weeks for NRs. ND is already about the most unfriendly state to NRs as it is. If we're going down that road, I think we should push the season back 2 weeks as well for residents that live east of the Missouri River. Doesn't everyone know it's all those Red River Valley a-holes ruining the hunting for the Badlands? I mean it's nothing but a bunch of Cass and Grand Forks county boys just ruining everything out there. Oh and they're stealing all the rifle mule deer tags too so we better do something about that as well.

I think it is interesting most of the opposition is from people who don't hunt west regularly or just like to stir the pot with useless info or smart ass comments looking to derail a thread, meanwhile the silent majority is showing over 50% for moving the NR season back.

Flatrock, this is one thing that really pisses me off. I live in Fargo and have only hunted in the badlands once, which was for my Dad's cow elk license (which was unsuccessful btw). I am an extremely respectful hunter, especially to land owners. We were treated like shit by several locals just for the fact we told them we were from Fargo and here looking for a cow elk. Granted we met a couple very nice land owners as well. I just want to mention the asshole retards from this side of the state piss me off too, but it's not fucking fare to put us all into that category.

I say if you dont like non resident hunters. Then there are always places like Montana, Colorado, and Idaho.

Wait. That would make YOU the non resident. And trying your best to harvest an animal that may not be as prevalent in you own state. I say let them be. Public land isn't just for ND it's for the "PUBLIC"!

so you are a rut hunter so you would still buy a tag....but equality make believe you would maybe pass I see I am going to have to make another poll next week ;:;rofl thanks for your input have you ever been to the TRNP, or the surrounding national grasslands?

I was trying to answer your first questions about whether or not I would buy a tag if NR were required to wait 2 weeks before they could hunt and why. Hypothetically, if I am going to pay $250 to kill a deer I would be after a trophy mule deer. I would wait until the rut to do that because I believe that would be my best chance of filling the tag. However, I didn't mention that Labor Day weekend helps many R and NR hunters because that is a free vacation day...as stated, not really being much of a deer hunter (nor do I care about), I did not even consider the fact that of harvesting a deer in velvet. If velvet was my goal I would definitely be looking at a different state...

I am in no way fighting for NR hunters, I am just trying to give you a point of view from a NR...it will not hurt me one bit if ND decided that the first two weeks of bow season was for residents only, and if you want go ahead and double the tag prices! I have a son that will gun hunt for deer here in NE and I will be with him because I enjoy hunting, but besides does that I shot for non hunters that like deer meat, the last buck I shot was at least 7 years ago and that was with muzzleloader...not in the rut either!

Unfortunately I have never been to TRNP or the surrounding grasslands. However, if my son, dad, and I return next June for my son's birthday to fish Sakakawea I would like to swing through and see it on the way home.

having spent quite a bit of time living central, west, and east ND I can very much appreciate your sentiments

But I can also appreciate the "east hater's" views. It doesn't take exposure to many severely abrasive self-centered a$$holes from WI for example, to develop a distaste for them in general. It's just the way people's minds work. Even though it might only be 10% of the crowd that are actually horrible people.

simple fact is that we're still very tribal down at the DNA level - DNA is pretty difficult to change - we naturally will want to form teams of locals vs outsiders

multiculturalism for instance is going to make things way way worse in coming decades - breaking up largely successful and cooperative tribes (USA, etc.) by purposefully injecting hostile uncooperative tribe members is insanity - but that insanity has been institutionalized by morons in government and higher ed

but I digress.... back to fuzzy antlered mulies

haha yea or they just don't want to be ridiculed for their opinion because it goes against a couple of the sites vocal members, which is why I made the poll so it wouldn't show who voted because if it goes against the grain at all people usually get ran into the dirt for their opinion, and that's why a lot of people lurk and rarely post. it does make good mid day drama reading so it is what it is. I honestly think there is more demand for a reduced NR season then some may think, mostly from western hunters anyways right wrong or indifferent.

your missing the point but you seem to jump to conclusion and put words in people mouths all the time, this isn't about not liking NR or hunting in other states it's about if ND residents should get the first week or two to hunt without NR.
