Some of us just don't want our next door neighbors raising chickens and attracting rats, smelling up the air, and listening to a rooster crow every morning at 0 dark 30.
Any town or city that allows Chicken do not allow Roosters. So no noise. I think it's kind of soothing to listen to hens out in the yard pecking and scratching for food. If rats show up, they are already in the area. We had Chicken for years and only one year we have rats. And that was from my neighbor who doesn't use the garbage service. He would throw his garbage in a pickup box trailer. He had young kids and there were 100's of diapers laying around. There were many bags on garbage on the ground. We got rid of all the chicken that fall. And put out lots of rat poison. When the county got after him to clean up his garbage he burnt it all. Then the Fire dept and Sheriff were out there. One of the deputes said he seen a few dozen rats coming out of the pile. He had garbage piled up as high as his skidsteer would pile it. Between garbage, old pallets, tires and anything else that would burn he was burning. He ended up with a big fine and big fire dept bill.

But in a nut shell, Chicken don't bring or attract rats for the most part.

I am willing to bet at least one of you neighbors is offended by something you do on your own private property
People like this usually are so self centered they dont believe they do anything that would annoy or offend their neighbor.

Ba ha ha, there are a lot of people who don't or won't take the time to mow their lawn in the summer or rake their leaves in the fall, shovel the sidewalk or driveway in the winter ................and you think that they will take care of chickens. ...rofl...

they are the ones you sell the extra eggs to so you can buy feed....

I contemplate combining an elevated coop with a chicken tractor.... but life intervened.

Good Grief People!! Here's what I know about chickens. They don't smell unless you have too many confined in one area. Six chickens walking in a 100 x 100 ft area (backyardish) produce way less poop than a single 20lb dog. Ever seen the backyard of a house that owns a big dog in the spring? Does that minefield smell? Keep that in mind. As far as being noisy. You gotta be kidding me. Car noise alone in town is way higher that what 6 chickens would produce without a rooster. You people listen to lawn mowers, snow blowers, sirens, semi's and trucks of every kind, motorcycles, radios, barking dogs, kids playing, etc. etc. etc. and you're going to complain about 6 fricken chickens? Talk about a bunch of Karens. As far as rats go. Rats are attracted to clutter, food, and filth. Keep the food area clean as well as your yard and you will have no problems with rodents. Piles of refuse and your garbage containers, can and do attract rodents with or without chickens. A chicken coop for 6 birds will be the size of a regular dog house and can be put on cinder blocks. I've seen people that use a large dog travel cage with a doggie door access and it works fine. The biggest problem with urban chickens, as with most everything else is WINTER. Keeping them, the water, and the eggs from freezing. It can be done as lots of people keep their dogs in the garage in winter. You just have to keep the area cleaned up. It's very similar to keeping an outside dog. Egg On!!!
Please do bullet statements like you forced upon your minions back in the day. Some of us have astigmatism. Also; a big block of words tends to hide subterfuge.

You know what I'm saying:

That is all. :)
