Update: total damage to my truck was over 11 grand.
I guess aside from the obvious damage and air bag situation, the air conditioner condenser was damaged a bit, the front quarter panel needed to be replaced, and paint blended into the door and hood. Not sure what stings more: My sprained thumb (the air bag hit it), the $500 deductible, or needing to re-wax the whole front end.

So the obvious question is: DIY?? You've shown your work with long guns. I think you need an FDE Punisher Silverado.

Whats it like to have an air bag go off in your face? I am asking because I don't want to find out the hard way.

I agree it's not fun. It's a bit disorienting. First the bag is in your face and then the powder / dust crap from the propellant. My wife thought the truck was on fire. It leaves a sulfur-like smell that hangs around for days.

Interesting fact was going south on I29 by Brookings SD 85 mph big wide road damn doe jumped out of corn field like 100 feet I swore planted its teeth on rear passenger window wrapped around back where I had a bike rack with 4 very nice bikes totaled them all looked back, she got up and took off. Took pictures of the bike damage and that night threw them in hotel garbage, was pissed to say the least Very expensive day. Insurance man said 1 in 3 people have deer accident. Me number 6
