An interesting topic. Your thoughts? Predictions?

FYI - Johnny mentioned on a podcast that 1443 was being tossed about as a compromise level (I think that level returns a lot of land around Alice, Pelican, etc. up to the NW)

Take off 4 feet from this map and you have 1443. She would definitely be wicked low compared to what she was.

2016 was about what we have now imo. . Look how much rain jamestown area has had the first 20 days of this month. June is always a big rain month. La Nina - not great for producing rain --- next year may be different with El coming back. Canada-- imo they had lots of snow up north. Its always a hit and miss --- one year a miss. When i fished the lake in the 90s 1443 was like way high --- its amazing what we get used too.

It's a big deep subject with a lot of opinions. It's probably just me that's not adjusting to the conditions but I caught more bigger fish way back when it was low than I do now. Overall success rate in fish per day is better now though.

Currently, you can just about write off Irvine and Alice for everything but winter as at this time no summer access that I know of. Some landowner is missing the boat by not providing for summer access to Irvine and charging an boat-launch fee.

I'm fine with that. The Northern Lakes wouldn't be lakes (or much for fishing)
without the 25 year wet cycle.

I wrote a paper on this in college when Devils was going up every year.
It's a lake that has gone through a lot of changes. It has almost dried up before.

Not sure what would be best elevation. I wouldn't panic over a year or two of lower water.

I don’t foresee “lower” lake elevations as being an issue. The bigger issue would be what impact the lack of run off has on the spawn in the long run.

In on the short-term, the lower water level should help the rental companies with their excavators!!!

BTW --- North Dakota Stocks --- and they stock like no other state does ----- please review the stocking in DL -- yes they stopped for a while -- but as soon as the creel survey numbers dropped -- they started putting fingerlings in like crazy. Of course if the level gets below a point in which a fingerling chokes on the salt --- well then you have a point.

tough deal all round... i have old classmates who have lost thousands of acres in farm land and some who have benefited greatly by the water coming up... whats fair???

you don't just move to another part of the county or country and start farming again when the land your family grew up on and farmed is now part of the lake... the farmers have to keep on paying at least a portion of the land taxes to keep the land to farm again if it ever dries up... what a suck sandwich for the farmers with land in the lake...

and now - are we historically wet - or were we historically dry for 50 years??? i really feel for the ag guys trying to figure this mess out...

I always chuckle with newer people who move here who go on about an inlet. We couldn't get an inlet when the lake was going down in the early 90's and hit 1423 because Canada was afraid it would keep the lake artificially high and increase the possibility of it flowing into the Sheyenne, Red, and then Canada. And people now thing they'll get one at 1446 or so.

Just before it started raining in June in it was either 92 or 93, people on the main lake started the discussion of closing off the 57 bridge and saving the water for their end of the lake (the Creel Bay homes). Needless to say, that didn't go over very well. Then we had about a 4" rain in the area on a Sunday of the Chamber fishing tourney. After that, it didn't quit.
