Had a phone call today from an unknown number, that I am glad I answered. Turns out my scheels card was hacked, and they caught it on the second charge out of California for $1379, wanted to verify if I was making these charges, and when I told her I didnt, they cancelled my card and reversed those charges.

Really appreciate credit card companies who take the time to do this. Have had a couple calls from Cabela's card that asked the same question. Most of the charges were OK but one wasn't and they did the same as Scheel's, canceled the card, reversed the charges and issued a new card. The others were when I was traveling and they wondered if I was eating and charging rooms in some other state, etc. Yes I was but at least they checked. Good of those companies.

Fullrut, don't you eat meat? I assumed everyone on here was a meat-eater and would welcome them with open arms. Don't like door to door peddlers either but do have to admit that some of them are pretty good salesman(women). Some of them can make you wish you had a headache just so you could use their product.

Reminds me of the State Fair commercial buildings. They can make you think you're missing out on the best deal of the day if you don't go home with their product. Do have to admit that most of the products I've bought at those stands don't work nearly as well for me as they do for the exhibitor. Still not old enough to walk away from them every time. Drives my bride nuts. Maybe that's part of the desire to make a purchase.

Ever try any meat from one of those trucks? Bait and switch scam. Show you a nice thick steak and sell you a box of them 3/8 thick that have been brined heavily to make them fit for human consumption. Same sales pitch every time, "just have a few cases left to sell before I can go home". Not worth my time. If I need something, I'll go find it myself. As far as work goes, I have more purchasing power with credible dealers on higher quality goods and actually provide service/repair.

I don't answer my phone if the number isn't in my contacts unless its obviously a local number and I'm expecting a call. I've gotten to the point i don't answer my door either unless i'm expecting somebody. I can kind of peer out my window to see who it is, most the time its somebody trying to sell me something....or worse, an f'n Jehovah.

Nothing you can do about telemarketers, even do-not-call list. They call from over seas and US authorities can't do anything. I get a few that tell me my computer has a virus. I play completely dumb and see how long I can keep them on the line.

haha, you guys are afraid of the scary guy/gal on the other end of a unknown number, or worse those pesky magazine/meat/jehovah's at the door.
I seriously have purchase some pretty sweet stuff from a door to door character, and have told some guys after they demo the product and spend some time with me, that I am currently in the process of bankruptcy, and have no possible way to pay them, unless they are willing to take a 3rd party, out of state, payroll check as payment...haha

I was getting calls from the IRS ona daily basis not to long ago saying I owed them money. They'd leave a number to call back and I'd give them a call. would tell the guy I'd like to give him all my money. The guy would get all excited till I told him my name was Hugh Janus. Some even thought that was my name and didn't catch on till I told them my social was 123-456-7890. When they quit calling I was actually disappointed I could no longer call and harass them. It was cheap entertainment.

Fullrut is correct about the meat salesmen. Fooled me once. Did eventually choke it down but can't say I enjoyed it. Just to stubborn to throw it out and didn't have a dog to feed it to.

If I find a telemarketer I've done one of three things, depending upon the day & energy level:
1) Put the phone down and let 'em talk away through the entirety of their shpeel.... They've hung up by the time I pick the phone back up.
2) Hang up immediately. This doesn't force them to expend much energy, tho.
3) Ask them all kinds of questions and make them spend 15mins covering all bases, then say "I didn't want anything to begin with, but you just lost three more sales calls!"

I don't think they care anymore about the Do Not Call list. That was a signature thing almost two decades ago and the FCC couldn't keep up with them all.

there was a neat scene in underwood yesterday. couple cops cars lights flashing etc etc. im told there was some people going door to door trying to sell a cleaning agent. they were stopped for not having the proper license to sell within city limits. as they were working to take care of this apparently they discovered the other 3 or 4 in the van were wanted on warrants. i cant confirm this, this was what i was told from one particular resident.

I have had calls with this number 000-000-0000, have never answered one. The last time they did leave a recorded message and a after about 15 seconds of listening to it I hung up.
