Driving on Ice

Anyone driving their trucks on the ice yet. I measured 18 inches last weekend on Crystal Springs. Pretty clear ice too. Except for the few snow drifts I think I could have driven my Frontier out there.

Guys have been pulling out their 1 tons and ice castles out on less than that. 18" of consistent ice you'll be just fine.

18 inches should be plenty but especially this year I wouldn't tell anyone to drive on the ice yet. Definitely colder over there but a small dam I was on yesterday had less than 8 inches here in eastern MT. Be careful, 18 in one place can easily be 9 a few feet away.

I'm sitting on 17 with the half ton now. Only the bottom 8 is nice clear ice. The top is cloudy.

I'd say were over to 2 feet at Metigoshe. Good clear ice for the most part.

Well. According to the small city of Ice castles on my local lake. It’s perfectly safe. I’m still running out with sled and portable but that’s just me. And I like to roam away from everyone.

Last weekend was 16 inches east of bridge and 12-14 west of bridge in the bay. 8 inches under the bridge. 6-8 inches west closer to river channel.

I didn't have the guts to go under the bridge I talked to a guy while I was down there that took his 4 wheeler over there and checked. Said there was a decent current....fished for a short time, nothing.
