Don't take this the wrong way, but I thought I had heard once that the life insurance if a police officer is killed in the line of duty is like 5-10 million dollars?

I doubt it is that much, but if you are a LEO you should have a stout LI policy because there is always a chance you can get popped by whack job like above. It would be irresponsible not to. You didn't sign up to be florist after all. Sad and tragic situation, but if you deal with the scum of the earth daily as part of your job it can and does happen.

A policy of that size would cost a lot to keep in force. I would highly doubt the city of fargo funds policies of that magnitude.

That's what I was thinking. That said, I would have no problem it.

Guess I did find this, I'm guessing it still varies city to city:

Provider: US DOJ - BJA - Public Safety Officers Benefits Program
Amount: $333,604 for officers killed on or after October 1, 2013
Summary: A unique partnership effort of the U.S. Department of Justice; local, state, tribal, and federal public safety agencies; and national organizations, the Public Safety Officers' Benefits (PSOB) Programs provide death and education benefits to survivors of fallen law enforcement officers, firefighters, and other first responders, and disability benefits to officers catastrophically injured in the line of duty. The PSOB Office at the Bureau of Justice Assistance is honored to review the nearly 700 claims submitted each year on behalf of America's fallen and catastrophically disabled public safety heroes and their loved ones.

Maybe cities, counties, states, whatever, use some type of reinsurance to help pay for any premiums/claims with higher risk occupations. Sad deal all the way around though.

Ain't this a bich? Sad deal this had to happen and another good cop is down,I see the shooter is a white guy so maybe its not news worthy nationally. And then we have all these liberal protesters like black lives matter everytime one of their black thugs just turning their life around gets shot for...whatever reason and everyone of these thugs have an extensive rap sheet barr none, usually for not obeying a verbal comand or bull rushing a cop.

Gotta feel bad for the guys wife and kid too. They're the other two victims here. Their lives have been destroyed too. Hard to understand how people can do that not only to others but those they supposedly love as well.

If they don't fund a huge policy for loss of life on the job, they should. It would only be for in the line of duty situations. Not things like cancer. So, I can't imagine it would be too cost prohibitive. Or forget the insurance. Just have the city pay it as a matter of practice.

Somebody already that they get life ins 300 plus, workers comp claims for survivors up to 300, ND has something I am not sure what, social security survivors benefit. ex. per child SS may pay out 15k a year till he is 18 years old and the mother gets survivors benefits too depending on how much she makes. Nothing replaces the lost. And I do think that they need to look at larger policies but at the same time maybe they use those dollars for payroll. That's all I know.

as to the killer and every other person out doing crimes and shooting the innocent. I think the country as a whole has degraded. Decline in religion practices, religions stating that your sins will be forgiven - when in reality that may not be the case, you never hear anyone refer to hell anymore. I think these people do not believe they will go to hell and they live in a fantasy world of TV and movies.

sad deal.
