Anyone have a favorite style of Jiggin' Rap for ice fishing? There is a ton of variations now.
I've become fond of the Acme Hyper Rattle:

and the Rattlin' RPM Minnow:

I seem to favor the short/dense Jiggin' Raps in the winter.

Seeing the prices of ice lures I should go back to a jig and minnow. It is getting crazy.

I remember when the chubby darters came out. they were the hot ticket for several years before the jigging raps came into popularity again.

I am going on record and saying I hate chubby darters. Fished a bunch of times with them and haven't caught crap.

I'm a pretty big fan of the rippin raps these days. They wont always hit them, but when they do it can be a blast.

I also hated the Chubby Darters. Yes they caught fish, but they took way to damn long to get back to the bottom during a feeding frenzy.

They were like magic for me for a few years. I didn't even tip them 95% of the time. They changed the paint on my favorite one and it hasn't worked as well since.

Do you tip the Jiggin' Raps with minnow head or anything, or just as is? I've never iced fished with them.

I used to fish a couple lakes in S/E ND back 5-6 years ago for perch, walleye, and crappie. The chubby darters worked so well for me I would go out to the lake and not even bring live bait with and still catch plenty of fish. The last 3 years though I've struggled to get a decent bite on anything without having live bait of some sort. Seems like last year I did best on just a plain red hook and a minnow.

My old man does pretty well with the chubby darters. I personally suck with both the darter and the jiggin' rap. Going to give them more of a shot this year.

I wonder how the chubbies would work with a swim wing glued on the back end...might have to create my own version and see if results are better.

Not a jigging rap but i almost always have to at least try a buckshot. Many a fish have been landed with one. Without trying it on a fish outing would be like having lefse without butter and sugar. Sure it can be done..but why? lol

Agree. I got a handful of them and I gave them a fair chance on numerous occasions. Never caught anything on them. Red Buckshot is my go to...

only downside of that is they would sink even slower, the pain as mentioned above is they sink so darn slow, which walleyes love

I have used the acme hyper glied with mixed success, I like how it slows the fall rate of the lure which drives the walleyes crazy. Downside is my cone angle is too narrow that I don’t see it on the vex half the time.

I also picked up some of the phantom tillys . Rumor is they are thinking of coming out with a larger version next year for open water.

That is the Hyper Rattle. It is similar to the Hyper Glide without the wings.
