If a fish dies after being caught, how does anyone know it wasn't going to die anyway?
Maybe it was suicide, or maybe that fish was about to die anyway, sometimes fish have just had enough, and want to feed a family, and when they are denied that, they give up and float to the bottom.

There are seriously people that think catch-and-release doesn't work? Come on, man!

I'll tell you this.....100% of kept fish die, and dead fish don't grow and dead fish don't reproduce.

excessive C/R has the opposite effect of the entire rational for C/R

just sayin

Lunker,my walleye lake has been c&r for two years now, infact until july27th walleye fishing is shut down completely(mille lacs) we non natives adhere to regs that don't apply to the natives as they continue to pilage our spawning walleyes every spring with gill netts, further eventho our walleye fishing is c&r we get stapled with a allocation allotment, some 15,000lbs of walleye or so,when this # is reached via est mortality from hooked walleyes released our lake is shut down for non natives that is,also the natives continue to fish hook-n-line with no slot and a 10walleye daily limit, don't see many natives out fishing as I'm sure their freezers are busting at the seems with walleye fillets, but they are privlaged folks.

I've heard of salmon and trout fighting to the death and I'm sure that some fish do this. beings that said most fish will not kill them selves doing this. When i see small walleyes floating dead I can bet you it's because somebody who caught them were to lazy to retie the hook because the fish swallowed it. I personally have cut and retied a lot over the years instead of ripping that hook out. do i think that fish die from C&R yes some do but a hugh amount of them live. I do C&R more then i keep, been doing this for years will be doing it for the rest of my life. I don't believe done the right way that excessive C&R does more harm then good.

With all the asshattery that happens quite frequently at boat landings, me thinks that the term SPORTSMAN or SPORTSWOMAN is a stretch of the term for too many individuals which includes fishing sportsmanship of the fishery. I am not preaching as I can say I have done things I probably wouldn't want to be teaching my son. All's I am saying is us fisherperson's are probably the biggest problem to our fisheries.JMPO

As I tend to catch salmon on lighter than recommended tackle, I am pretty sure every damn one of them has died as it came over the gunwhale. With not a single exception.

Granted, it's not like I've caught that many, but it is certainly a trait I associate with our salmon.

I think trout and salmon are half dead when they're alive.

Tried eating a live 2# bass once. Puked up that 12 pack of Old Mill I had used for a appetizer. Maybe was the beer?;:;barf
